Toddler age is one of the age stages that occurs in the age range of 1 to 3 years. At this time, children will find it easier to learn and understand new things. Some children grow up with their siblings. The existence of these siblings often creates feelings of jealousy, anger, and fear in children, which feelings will lead to sibling rivalry. The negative impacts of sibling rivalry include the occurrence of tantrums in children, giving rise to a regression attitude, low self-efficacy, not wanting to share with siblings, and aggressive behavior both physically and verbally. Parents have an important role in preventing sibling rivalry, Erik Erikson in his theory explains that toddler-age children are entering a phase of autonomy vs shame. Where children begin to learn to be independent and have self-control over their own lives. The purpose of writing this article is to explain how the role that parents can play in preventing sibling rivalry in toddler age children is based on the perspective of Erik Erikson's theory of development. The method used in writing this article is a literature study by collecting several sources from research journal articles that are in accordance with the topics discussed. The result is that parents must provide understanding to the child that they will not lose attention and affection because of the presence of siblings, and continue to give full attention to toddler age children so that this stage can be successfully passed by the child, increasing parental knowledge about parenting patterns, characteristics children in each stage of growth and development, knowledge about sibling rivalry, the causes and ways to prevent and overcome sibling rivalry, and teach children how to channel emotions properly.
