The first emergence of lace is given in various sources in different forms, in different geographies and in different time periods. This makes it difficult to examine the art of lace chronologically. When the origin of the word lace is examined, it is seen that this technique takes place in different or similar forms in many languages. The fact that this art has become an occupation for centuries by a wide geography and mass, besides local usage, the use of the word has greatly enriched in dictionaries, encyclopedias, design books etc. The diversity in the naming of lace and lace varieties can be misleading in name-based research in the classification of this technique. Therefore, in this study of laces; material, equipment and technical knowledge are taken into account and classified. The aim of this research is to provide a detailed description, terms and concepts related to lace technique, as well as to make a classification by taking into account materials, tools and characteristic features.
