Silk reeling is to make the high-quality cocoons into silk package, mainly achieved by silk reeling machine (Wang et al., 2013) (Mande et al., 2013). In the process of silk reeling, the traverse mechanism is the actuator to wind the silk yarn and form a silk package. Its main components include rotary drum and traverse rod. Combined with the rotary motion of rotary drum and the linear reciprocating motion of traverse rod, silk yarn is winded on the rotary drum in the form of spiral. Gradually, the silk yarn on the rotary drum forms an alternately covered mesh surface and finally form a silk package (Zhao et al., 2014). The forming uniformity of silk package, which directly influences the quality of finished silk fabrics, is affected by axial and circumferential forming uniformity of traverse mechanism.In axial direction, the forming uniformity is achieved by controlling the traverse rod to guide silk yarn with constant speed for as long as possible. The traditional traverse mechanism uses eccentric circular gear pair to drive the multi-bar linkage to achieve it. However, the velocity of its traverse rod varies acutely at two ends, resulting in the phenomenon of packaged concave core (Yanabe et al., 2010). In addition, the gear backlash of the eccentric gear pair is great when they mesh, which makes the motion of traverse rod unstable (Mitome and Ishida, 1974). Compared with the eccentric circular gears, non-circular gears can not only realize variable speed drive, but also have the advantages of high motion accuracy, stable transmission, simple and compact structure. As a result, non-circular gears are often combined with other mechanisms to achieve specific complex motion. Ye proposed a planetary gear train with non-circular gears to realize planar motion generation synthesis (Ye et al., 2019). Mundo combined non-circular gear pair with five-bar mechanism (Mundo et al., 2009), so that one of hinge points in the mechanism can move in a specific trajectory. Ottaviano designed a new pulsating blood flow generator by combining non-circular gear with crank slider mechanism (Ottaviano et al., 2008), so that the slider can reciprocates according to the given motion law.
