CK2 is an attractive target in treatment of various cancers. Currently only a few specific CK2 inhibitors are available. Preclinical studies using CK2 inhibitor, CX4945 in high risk pediatric leukemias have shown promising results and warrants further testing in other types of leukemia.
Children with FA did not have increased anxiety; however, there was a trend for mothers of children with allergies to report more symptoms of panic disorder in their children. It remains important to screen families for anxiety-related symptoms and refer them to mental health services when indicated.
For the first time in US history, first-year female medical school matriculants (50.7%) outnumbered men (49.3%) in 2017 [1]. Moreover, in 2019, women accounted for 50.5% of all medical students for the first time [1]. Yet, female faculty continue to be underrepresented at the highest rankings in academic medicine as a whole and in psychiatry [2, 3]. Women represent only 26% and 32% of full professors among all medical faculty and psychiatry faculty, respectively, with a majority identified as White [3]. Structural racism, gender bias, and discrimination, along with the lack of systematic strategies that aim to achieve gender and racial equity, result in persistent achievement and promotion disparities among students, residents, and faculty, especially among those who are underrepresented in medicine [4,5].We will review the barriers women face advancing their careers in academic medicine in general, and academic psychiatry in particular, with specific attention paid to inequities for Black, Indigenous, and People of Color (BIPOC) women and especially underrepresented in medicine (URM) women compared to White women based on race/ethnicity. Control of alveolar cell growth and differentiation after pneumonectomy likely involves changes in expression of regulatory genes, including those encoding zinc finger (ZF) proteins. To explore this premise, total RNA from the lungs of control and pneumonectomized rats was reverse transcribed; PCRs were performed with degenerate primers corresponding to amino acid sequences HTGEKP and CPECGK(N), which are evolutionarily conserved among ZF genes. Reaction products corresponding to three and four ZF units were isolated and cloned. Sixteen clones were sequenced and found to represent rat lung ZF genes: six clones were highly similar or identical to known ZF genes and ten clones showed lower homology to known ZF genes and thus appear to represent new members of the ZF family. Northern analysis demonstrated differential expression of some ZF genes after pneumonectomy. Thus a PCR-based strategy with primers derived from evolutionarily conserved ZF protein sequences efficiently identifies ZF genes expressed in lung, some of which may play a role in cellular growth and differentiation.
