Sustainability of mineral resource is linked with governing the reciprocity of economic, environmental and social processes in which the economic interests need to be made compatible with the other processes. Sustainable management of mineral resources needs to be linked with the notions of ecology and circular economy in which an opinion exists that depletion of mineral resources by itself undermines economic growth and determines the need for the most efficient ways of using natural resources in business so that maintaining natural systems could support human life and welfare also in the future. JSC "LATVIA'S STATE FORESTS" manages state owned land covering the area of 1.62 million hectares, including 1.60 million hectares of forest land, out of which 1.39 million hectares are covered by forests. Since 2002, JSC "LATVIA'S STATE FORESTS" has built forest roads (FR) in the length of approximately 5.6 thous. km and as of January 2018 the total length of FR had reached 11.8 thous. km. Extraction of mineral resources and their use in building, repairing and maintaining forest roads is the company's investment in the future, as well as it makes easier the management and monitoring of forest territories, output of forests, accessibility of forests and improves the forest landscape. The research problem addresses the question whether the use of mineral resources is linked with economic benefits, whether with the growth of the company's profit the volume of extraction of mineral resources also increases. Evaluating the comparative indicators, it can be observed that the extraction of mineral resources is not closely correlated with other economic indicators-extraction and use of resources do not impact directly on the final result of the company's operations-acquiring profit. However, in the case of JSC "LATVIA'S STATE FORESTS" the problem is related with the places where mineral resources are extracted-on average about 8 % of the mineral resources are extracted in new, partly researched deposits. Such an activity is legal, but it is not sustainable and does not correspond to the sustainable strategy of the European Union, nor the one of Latvia.
The current economic crisis caused by both the coronavirus disease and the global prevention measures, will have significant negative impact on the tourism sector. Some of the negative consequences possibly can be averted by increasing return from tourism industry. One of the opportunities is to develop the recreational fishing tourism. Until now the economic potential of the recreational fishing for ensuring sustainable development of Kurzeme coastal area was not acknowledged. The aim of the research was to determine the residents and non-residents coastal recreational anglers at the Baltic Sea coast of Kurzeme region and their total expenses. Through use of primary data acquired in recreation fishing environment the demographic data and habitual data of resident and non-resident anglers were analysed and compared to those of different regions in the EU and Australia. The calculated result is EUR 4,558 698 and that underlines the assumption on the economic potential of recreational fishing in the Baltic Sea coast of Kurzeme Region.
In Latvia, the ever increasing trend of competition between the medical tourism as well as its branch dental tourism is evident. The aim of the research-to investigate the comparative advantages of the medical tourism and its services in the Baltic States. The medical tourism of the Baltic States was evaluated based on physical, economical and specialist availability and its quality. The research methodology used in the research: scientific induction and deduction, comparison, graphic, synthesis and analysis. As a result, the advantages of medical and the dental tourism of Latvia over its competitors in other Baltic states was evaluated: the comparative advantages of medical tourism in Latvia are related to the transport infrastructure advantages, the prices of dental services are similar, while a strategy is needed for a regulated influx of specialists to the specific branch.
