A formulação de Limite Inferior para problemas de estabilidade pelo método dos elementos finitos (MEF) é descrita nesse trabalho, podendo ser aplicada a meios contínuos e reforçados. No caso de solos reforçados, apresentam-se as formulações para análise através das técnicas do contínuo equivalente e discreta. Os exemplos estudados mostram a potencialidade do método para solução de problemas práticos da engenharia geotécnica. This paper presents the Lower Bound formulation for stability problems by the finite element method (FEM), and its applicability to continuous media or reinforced soils. In case of reinforced soils, two formulations are described using equivalent continuous model and discrete model. The studied examples show the potentiality of the solution method for practical problems in geotechnical engineering
