The order and rate of acquisition of Brown's (1973) 14 prammatical morphemes were investigated in three children with language disorders periodie spontaneous language samples were analyzed for correct and incorrect use of the morphemes in obligatory contexts Results indicated that the groups order of acquisition was similar to that reported by Brown (1973) and de Villiers and de Villiers (1973) for normal children but that there were individual variations in the children's acquisition orders. Also, the language disordered children demonstrated a much slower rate of acquisition than that reported for normally developing children.
This paper is a description of 16 phonological processes. These processes have been identified in the speech of both normal children and children with a deviant pattern of language development. Limited information is available regarding the use of these processes in normal and disordered language development.
This article describes a method for assessing children's production of certain grammatical structures, including noun and verb markers, pronouns, negative forms, and interrogative inversion. The method can be used for ongoing assessment in therapy and is designed for children whose mean-length-of-utterance falls between 2.0 and 5.0 morphemes. It incorporates information from both the normal language development literature and an individual child's performance to help the speech-language pathologist make remediation decisions for that child.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
