AbstractMelismatic Technique Learning Process in Repertoire Messiah by G.F. Handel on Vocal Ensemble Courses. The vocal ensemble course in the Department of Music, Faculty of Performing Arts, the Indonesian Institute of the Arts in the even semester has a difficulty level that is more than the odd semester. The reason is that in odd semesters students have adapted to supporting subjects such as music theory, solfeggio, and harmony. Students who take this course come not only from major vocal instrument students but consist of all other instruments so that when they sing a song, there is still a sound that is still raw and has not been formed properly and correctly, especially when faced with a melody. melismatic length. Therefore, a repertoire that has a long melismatic melody becomes a mandatory repertoire in the even semester. The purpose of this study is to teach all students who take vocal ensemble courses to sing melismatic melodies properly and correctly. The research method used is the Classroom Action Research method. Where the researcher also acts as a teacher to identify classroom research and understand what is going on, while being involved in the improvement process. The application of staccato, legato and accent vocal techniques is the answer when faced with a repertoire that has a melismatic melody. Keywords: Melismatic, Messiah, Vocal Ensemble
Vocalista Divina is a choir group in Semarang that is supported by the transgender singer's members. The existence of transgender always serves pros and cons among the public, especially in Indonesia, and they are often opposed by some part of the community. However, if we scrutinize more carefully, they have actually been legitimized and institutionalized through cultural practice of Indonesian arts. However, not all of Indonesian people could accept their existence and identity. A group identity, such as owned by the Vocalista Divina, is built through individual's identity of its members. Theoretically, within the increase of positive identity, there are three basic strategies that can be done, namely individual mobility, social creativity, and social competitions. Group identity of the transgender can be seen from the way they are exposing their existence. When they are focused on their own activities people could identify them according to what they are doing. Although there are numbers of Indonesian transgender groups who still haven't dare to show their identity, there are several groups who have already been assimilating into public art activities, such as a choral art in particular. Realizing this reality, the researcher was interested to study the Vocalista Divina transgender choir in Semarang city. The existence of transgender through choir activities became a social identity that is currently known by the public. To uncover their existence, this research utilized a qualitative method through case studies approaches. Through this approach, comprehensive findings have been obtained that social identity of the transgender can be built through the mediation of choir activity. Although their existence cannot fully accept by the public at least this study may inspire other groups to practice other positive activities like choir rehearsal.
