Palavras-chave: odontopediatria; sedação consciente; óxido nitroso. aBstRaCt introduction: Many patients come to the dentist showing signs of fear and anxiety, and this behavior is quite common when it comes to pediatric patients. So the dentist can make use of anxiety control techniques through pharmacological methods of conscious sedation, such as benzodiazepines and N 2 O / O 2 , and non pharmacological ones, such as child psychology. Objective: To perform a literature review on the use of benzodiazepines and N2O / O2 for conscious sedation of children during dental care. methods: A survey was conducted in PubMed and VHL databases, selecting references published in Portuguese and English, using the following keywords: "conscious sedation", "benzodiazepines", "nitrous oxide / oxygen" and "dentistry". Results: Benzodiazepines are the first-choice drugs for the management of anxiety in the dental office, having anxiolytic, sedative, and hypnotic effects. ...
