<p><strong>Background and Objective:</strong> Infectious disease outbreak caused by novel Coronavirus is a global public health concern. In this pandemic, pregnant women are high risk population. Knowledge and data on the effect of this COVID-19 disease on pregnant females and their newborns is limited. Number of cases is increasing day by day. Aim of the current study was to provide evidence-based knowledge related to effects of Coronavirus on pregnancy to improve the understanding of the COVID-19 disease. <strong>Methods: </strong>This is a systematic review, carried out in the Department of Obstetrics & Gynecology at Shalamar Medical and Dental College, Lahore. The available published research data from January 1st 2020 to May 13th 2020, on the effects of Coronavirus in pregnancy was collected. On the basis of Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis (PRISMA) guidelines the articles in English were selected from electronic databases PubMed and Goggle scholar. <strong>Results: </strong>The information gathered is organized in five main themes namely; Clinical manifestations of COVID-19 during pregnancy, risk of vertical transmission, issues related to breast feeding, care during antenatal period and labor and strategies for prevention. The main concern is to focus on best clinical practices for care of pregnant females. <strong>Conclusion:</strong> Clinical manifestations of Coronavirus infection in pregnant females are not different from general population. There is on strong evidence of risk of vertical transmission. Best antenatal care and care during labor is the right of all pregnant females whether suspected or infected and it must be according to the standardized guidelines. Breast feeding is encouraged either with full protection of transmission of droplet infection or my expressing milk manually. Vaginal delivery is safe and preventive strategies for the disease available for general population must be adapted by the pregnant women also to avoid getting the infection.</p>
Background Clinical teaching is always challenging. Different teaching strategies are used for effective teaching and learning in a clinical environment. Task-based learning (TBL) is the teaching strategy where tasks are used for the learning of students. We conducted this study to explore student’s perceptions about Task-based learning. Method This descriptive study was carried out for the academic year 2019-2020 in Shalamar medical college Lahore.TBL taught 4th-year MBBS students during a clinical rotation in Gynae/Obs, and at the end of rotation, they were asked to fill a questionnaire regarding their perceptions about TBL. Results 87 students participated in the study. All the students agreed that TBL is an effective teaching approach, and they have a positive response towards TBL in clinical setting.85%students said TBL improve communication skills, 89.6% Said TBL provide the opportunity of direct encounter with patients, 71.2% find it helpful and informative and 40.2%said that it promotes the active involvement of students. Conclusion: Students found TBL as an effective teaching approach in a clinical setting and find it more advantageous because it involves them more in teaching and learning and help them to improve their communication skills, and provide them opportunities to deal with patients.
ABSTRACT Background: Covid 19 is highly contagious disease and Health care workers are always at risk because they are involved in care of suspected, asymptomatic and confirmed cases. It is worthwhile to adopt all practices for prevention of the disease, so they will be able to continue their duties without fear and stress of carrying infection. OBJECTIVE: To determine the number of health care workers who became Covid positive after performing caesarian sections or normal vaginal deliveries of Covid positive asymptomatic cases. Material and Methods: This study was conducted in Gynae/Obs department Of Shalamar Hospital Lahore from March 2020 to September 2020.All the health workers involved in surgeries and deliveries of Covid positive patients were included and they were asked to fill the proforma related to their exposure and development of any signs and symptoms of COVID-19 during the period of fourteen days after exposure. Findings were summarized and analyzed by using SPSS VERSION 22. Results: Total twenty patients who were Covid positive were delivered during this period. Sixty health care workers were involved in their care. During study period three health care workers one doctor and two staff nurses became Covid positive. These infected health care workers were not involved in surgery or delivery of these 20 Covid positive patients. Conclusion: If all the health care workers takes all corona precautionary measures while performing deliveries and C-sections of Covid positive patients risk of transmission to the surgical team can be reduced. Background: House job is a challenging stage in doctor’s career in which they learn how to apply knowledge which they have obtained from their medical school in practice. It is the social responsibility of the medical institute to train their doctor in a way to provide proper health care facilities to the society. Objectives: To explore perception and views of House Officers, posted in Department of Obstetrics & Gynaecology of Shalamar Hospital regarding their training. Methods: A cross-sectional self –administered, question-based survey was conducted in department of obstetrics & gynaecology of Shalamar Hospital Lahore. The House Officers (Hos) posted in Department of Obstetrics & Gynaecology were enrolled in the study from April 2017 to April 2019. Thematic analysis of the free comments was also performed. Results: A total of 55 house officers took part in the survey. Out of total 55, approximately 83% of HOs reported to be satisfied with their training while 11 % were not satisfied. Most of the HOs 74% agreed with the statement that they are well prepared for future practice, after posting in department of obstetrics & gynaecology. 7.2% strongly agreed, 76% agreed and 11% disagreed with the statement that they have were well prepared for future practice after their obstetrics & gynaecology rotations. 90% of respondents said that they needed more surgical skills and 33% reported that they were deficient in dealing with emergencies. Common themes that emerged from comments included, peer behavior, clerkship, problems of working environment, and less exposure to emergencies as well as surgical procedures. Conclusion: House job is the first step of post graduate training for physicians in Pakistan. The HOs at Shalamar Hospital had mixed views about their training. Most of the Hos were satisfied with their overall training, but they reported lack of surgical skills and suggested training in dealing with gynecological emergencies. Greater peer support and hands on training are required to facilitate young professionals so that they proceed with skills and gain confidence in their professional journey.
