Mathematics is always related to simple problems to complex problems. The problems given affect the thinking process of students. The problem-solving process also requires hard work to overcome the existing difficulties or what is called the adversity quotient. This study aims to determine the thought processes of climber and quitter in solving math problems. This research is qualitative research, with research subjects consisting of nine students from class eleven in senior high school. Subject selection using purposive sampling. The research subjects were selected based on the results of the Adversity Quotient questionnaire. The data collection method in this research is by observation, test, and interview method. Data validation was carried out by method triangulation. The data analysis technique used in this research according to Miles and Huberman, namely data reduction, data presentation, and drawing conclusions or verification. The results showed that the thinking process in solving the problems of the climber and quitter students met the indicators of the predicative thinking process.
In learning mathematics, the functional thinking of students is very important so that they are expected to be able to understand mathematics material in depth and be able to overcome difficulties experienced gradually. Functional thinking is very necessary for mathematics because it is one of the main keys in algebraic thinking which includes generalization of functions. This study aims to describe the functional thinking of high school students in solving mathematical problems in terms of gender differences. This study used the descriptive qualitative method. The research subjects consisted four students of nasional senior high school students of class eleven grade which included excellent schools in Boyolali. The results show that the related activities determine the equation of the circle from two points. The subjects of this study were four students with two male students and two female students. Subjects of male and female students tend to have similarities in how to determine the circle equation from two points, namely by trial and error using existing mathematical operations. It can be concluded that the functional thinking of both subjects is relatively the same. It is just that the female subject is more specific in finding the equation of the circle if two points are known.
Mathematics will not escape the problem solving from a simple level to a high level. Problems are given by the teacher affect the thinking process of students. Thinking processes occur when students are interested in collecting information based on initial thinking to identify problems, find solutions and succeed in solving them. There are two types of thinking processes that are predictive and functional types. The purpose of this research is to describe the thinking process of students in high school in problem-solving with the non-routine problem. This research uses the descriptive qualitative method. The research subjects consisted of grade XI students of Senior High School 3 which includes excellent schools in Boyolali, selected by purposive sampling. The results of this study showed that six students with details of two high-ability students, two medium-ability students, and two low-ability students. A moreover that high-ability students and medium-ability students used predictive thinking process type while low-ability students used the functional thinking process type. It can be concluded that students with predictive thinking process type of mathematical ability are better than the type of functional thinking process.
