Integral cross sections for the scattering of pions by protons into angles greater than 30°͑lab͒ have been measured at a wide range of energies spanning the delta resonance using liquid hydrogen targets. Cross sections were measured for ϩ p scattering at 40 energies from 39.8 to 283.9 MeV and for Ϫ p at 15 energies from 80.0 to 283.9 MeV. Comparisons with phase shift predictions from the Karlsruhe group show good agreement on resonance but significant deviations below 100 MeV.
Inelastic scattering of 600 MeV vector and tensor polarized deuterons has been carried out at energy losses corresponding to quasielastic, incoherent scattering from individual nucleons in targets of CH 2 , CD 2 , C, Ca, and Pb at fixed momentum transfers of 345 and 500 MeV/c. Vector (A y ) and tensor (A yy ) analyzing powers were measured, and the vector polarizations P y Ј of the scattered deuterons were determined by the polarimeter POMME. These observables were combined to determine the vector spin transfer coefficients K y yЈ for the deuterons and several signatures for spin transfer probabilities across the quasielastic spectra.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
