Analytic second derivatives of the total energy for electrostatically solvated molecules AIP Conf.Heats of hydration of OD-have been determined by measuring thresholds for collision-induced dissociation reac~ons of hyd~ated OD-io~s. These d~ta showed similar values of hydrogen bonding energy for OD-a~d DaO ~ Atte~uatlOn cross se~tlO~ for vanous s?lvat.ed OD-ions were also measured and compared with DaO a~d ~ts solvated denvatlves. The relative sizes of solvated hydroxyl and hydrogen ions were f?u~d ~o b: Within ~% o.f each other for the unsolvated, mono-, di-, and trisolvated species. The very strong ~Imll~nty m both IOn size and hydrog~n. bonding energy of the respective positive and negative gaseous IOns m the water sY;,tem was used to divide the sum of the solvation energies of gaseous ions D 9 0.+ and D 70.-, and thus denve a value of 12.0±O.3 eV for the heat of solution of the proton.•
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
