Methods are described for the preparation in geometrically homogeneous form of allylic diphenylphosphine oxides. These compounds can be used in Horner reactions with carbonyl compounds to provide a convenient one-step synthesis of conjugated dienes in which the geometry present in the original allyl system is preserved. The method is exemplified by the preparation of the homogeneous Z-and €-forms of but-2-enylidenecyclohexane and of 3-methylpent-2-enylidenecyclohexane.
153ChemInform Abstract The triethylamine-catalyzed reaction mentioned in the title gives comparable or better yields than the analogous methylation in the presence of tetrabutylammonium iodide.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
