For hundreds of year’s composite materials have been playing very crucial role in the field of materials. The applications of composites expanded widely to the aircraft, automotive, sporting goods, and biomedical industries. Today natural fibers like ramie, jowar, sisal, flax, hemp, jute, bamboo, banana, etc. are widely used than the synthetic fibers like glass, carbon, ceramic fibers, etc., because these natural fibres offer several advantages over synthetic fibres. In this project a new natural fiber is introduced to develop Fiber Reinforced Composite. Composite material is fabricated by hand lay-up method by using epoxy resin as the matrix and Hardwickia binata fiber as the reinforcing agent. Mechanical properties such as tensile and impact properties of Hardwickia binata fiber reinforced composites are investigated by varying fiber length and weight fraction. The composite plate is fabricated with different weight fractions of hardwickia binata fiber (5, 10, 15, 20, and 25 wt. %) and different lengths of the fiber (2, 3, 4, 5, and 6 mm). This paper concludes that, the tensile properties increases up to 20 wt. % fiber load with increasing fiber length while the impact properties increases with increasing fiber length and fiber load.
New composites materials are developed to meet the demand for medical devices, vehicles, protective equipment, sporting goods, etc. In present investigations, the effects of graphite filler particles in the epoxy were studied separately by preparing epoxy with 5 and 10 vol.% of graphite filler particles composites by hand layup technique. Further, the combined effect of graphite filler particles and pineapple leaf fibers (PALF) on the mechanical behaviour of epoxy composites was studied by preparing epoxy with 5 vol.% of graphite -30 vol.% of PALF and epoxy with 10 vol.% of graphite -30 vol.% of PALF composites. Prepared composites were subjected to evaluating various mechanical properties like tensile strength, elongation, and flexural strength as per ASTM standards. By adding graphite filler particles and PALF fibers tensile, and flexural strength were improved with a slight reduction in the percentage elongation. Further, these conventional results were validated by FEM analysis using MSC Patran and Nastran Student Version.
Composite materials application areas have gradually grown, allowing them to reach and conquer new markets from consumer products to specialized niche applications, advanced composite materials make up a significant portion of the engineered materials industry. The purpose of this study is to investigate the mechanical properties of Aluminum (Al), Red Mud particle (RMp), Graphite particle (GRp) hybrid composites. The different combinations of Rm and Gr wt. % were used to prepare Al-Rm-Gr and Al-Gr-Rm hybrid composites. The mechanical properties namely Ultimate tensile strength, Compressive strength and Hardness of prepared hybrid composites are tested to know the influence of reinforcements in Al-8011 alloy. Synthesis of Aluminum-Red Mud-Graphite hybrid composites done by Stir casting method. Drastic reduction in grain size (Grain refinement) was observed in Scanning Electron Microscopic images of fractured surfaces of the tensile specimens, with addition of RMp and GRp to the matrix alloy thus soft alloy is turned into hard and brittle material. Among all the compositions of hybrid composites series AG8R10 was observed to be higher compressive strength and hardness while AR8G10 has higher ultimate tensile strength.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
