The focus of this research is to find out the impact of demographical factors on Work Life Balance among academic staff of University of Kelaniya. Objective is examining the impact of selected demographical factors; gender, marital status and investigate best and worst gender level and marital status of Work Life Balance. Research sample consists with 150 lecturers out of 560 lecturers in University of Kelaniya. Based on random sampling method standardized questionnaires are distributed to collect data. Based on the analysis researchers identified that there is significant relationships among gender, and marital status and Work Life Balance excluding age as a demographic factor. Further identified females as a best group in Work Life Balance and under marital status single group is having Work life Balance greater than married group. Based on findings researchers established that there is a significant impact of gender and marital status on Work Life Balance as demographic factors.
The literature bound the usage of social media by professionals and the present study posits to investigate teachers in higher education who are sophisticated users of social media today. Currently, the usages of social media by faculty personal is increasing, although their usage of social media for teaching is lacked. It is not apparent that who use social media in the classroom yet. Thereby, in line with the UTAUT-Unified Theory of Acceptance and Use of Technology Model, the purpose of the present study has derived as to investigate the effects of social media in terms of performance expectancy, effort expectancy, social influence, and facilitating conditions on behavior intention and finally on use behavior in teaching and learning activities. In addition, the study inspects the barriers that inhibit the minds of the management faculty in the use of it. The survey was conducted using standard questionnaire as online forms and printed copies. In this study, B-school faculty were considered as the population. The sampling method is used for the study is snowball sampling and 400 samples used for the study. One-Sample t-test was used for analyzing the data. Overall, the study found that there is a clear difference in the usage of social media by Indian faculty and Sri Lankan faculty. Contribution/Originality: This study contributes in the existing literature as this is the first attempt which compared the usage of social media in higher education of teachers in India and Sri Lanka as a cross sectional study.
This article defines a person’s environment as a combination of work and family environments by extending the person–environment fit theory to include the family domain. The study extends the person–environment fit construct by including person–job fit, person–organization fit, person–group fit, person–supervisor fit (all in work environment) and person–family fit (family environment). In the two studies that were carried using operational-level employees from various industries, we empirically develop a scale for the new concept person–family fit, validated person–family fit scale and the person–environment fit construct. This study makes several theoretical contributions including defining person–family fit construct, developing a scale to measure the same and confirming its inclusion into the person–environment fit construct. Managerial implications are provided to ensure person–job fit, person–group fit, person–supervisor fit and person–family fit in the working environment.
In spite of the ample determinants of academic performance, which could be found in the extant literature, health behavior is scarcely investigated with undergraduates’ academic performance. Bridging the gap in the literature, based on the social exchange theory and the social learning theory, the current study has assessed the impact of health behavior on academic performance of management undergraduates (n = 304) of state universities in Sri Lanka.Findings reveal that there is a strong positive relationship between health behavior and academic performance. It is recommended that healthy practices should be promoted among undergraduates in universities and higher educational institutes by linking such healthy practices to subjects, and by encouraging undergraduates to follow extracurricular activities during the study period.
