This study demonstrates the dynamics of land use in the Pequeno River watershed, São José dos Pinhais, PR. Within the watershed is an area of urban and industrial expansion in the metropolitan region of Curitiba. Using techniques of remote sensing and geographic information systems, land use mapping was completed for 1986, 1996 and 2007 years with the objective to identify the occupation dynamics on this watershed. The maps were generated by digital classification of Landsat 5 images. A growth of 19.98% was observed in the urban class and a 14.10% reduction in the swamp class.
