Fixed drug eruptions (FDE) are common dermatological adverse drug reactions which are commonly caused by antimicrobials, anticonvulsants and non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs. It is a clinical condition occurring in the same site/sites each time when the drug is administered. Here we present a case of diclofenac induced fixed drug eruption with a Naranjo scoring of 6 (Probable). The patient recovered after stopping diclofenac. This projects the importance of ADR monitoring which is a part of Pharmacovigilance Programme of India (PvPI).
One of the commonly encountered lesions in oral cavity is oral ulceration. They arise from various etiology, being associated with discomfort or pain, rarely results in complications and scarring. The nonspecific clinical presentation of oral ulceration in the oral cavity, will made their diagnosis crucial, however a detailed patient history, comprehensive clinical examination together with background knowledge of possible causes will lead to correct diagnosis and subsequent treatment, moreover distinguishing between erythema multiforme (EM) and herpes simples viral infection (HSV) when there is only oral involvement is of a great importance as the treatment of EM is contra indicated for HSV.
Sturge-Weber syndrome (SWS) also called as encephalotrigeminal angiomatosis, is a sporadically occurring rare neuro-cutaneous syndrome, characterized by vascular malformation with capillary venous angiomas involving face, choroidal layer of eye globe and leptomeninges responsible for ophthamological as well as neurological signs and symptoms. Authors report an interesting case, a six year old girl, who presented with seizures, facial port wine stain and normal psychomotor development. CT scan showed left cerebral hemiatrophy, left frontal and parieto occipital calcification with cortical calcification in left high frontal convexity. Cranial MRI scan also confirmed finding of left cerebral hemiatrophy and also revealed presence of gyriform cortical calcification, prominent flow voids seen in left basal ganglia. Her seizure is well controlled with antiepileptic medication. The pertinent literature is reviewed and management of such cases is discussed briefly.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
