The avifauna of Gulbarga city was studied for a period of one year. Gulbarga city has got one reservoirs in the heart of the city, the Shree Sharnabasveshwar Lake. The city has well protected by greenery, Gulbarga University Campus, Kapnoor (Industrial area). During the study of three different transects lines, 30 plants species and 42 birds species were observed, in which 35 are resident species, 6 winter migrant and 1 summer migrant respectively. Highest population of Cattle Egret (Bubulcus ibis) and Blue Rock Pigeon (Columba livia) was recorded in this study. The visitors include Whitenecked stork (Ciconia episcopus), Yellow Wagtail (Motacilla flava) which are found in the study area. According to status of birds maximum (average) numbers of birds were found in highly urbanized area when compared to industrial area, but species wise variation was high in low urbanized compared to that of highly urbanized area.
Croton scabiosus, a member of Euphorbiaceae and an endemic and vulnerable tree species of southern Eastern Ghats of Andhra Pradesh was studied for its carbon storage capacity and carbon sequestration potential. The species population was sampled through 75 transects of 0.5 ha each and a total of 8743 individuals were enumerated. We estimated its carbon stocks at 1738.8 tons and CO2 sequestration potential as 6294.46 tons.
In the present study, carbon stocks of linear structures of trees outside forest in Anantapuramu district was estimated through sampling of 344 (0.1 ha) plots. A total of 4229 tree individuals belonging to 66 angiosperm species were enumerated in the sampled plots. The mean tree density is 122.8per ha; mean diameter at breast height 4.04 m; mean basal area 15.43 m2 ha-1.Mean volume of trees with >10 cm diameter is 15.50 m3 ha-1; mean total tree biomass is 120.81 tons ha-1.The mean carbon stock is 57.385 tons ha-1 and extrapolated biomass and carbon content for linear structures are 0.176 Mt and 0.083 Mt respectively. The carbon sequestration potential of trees outside forests of Anantapuramu district is estimated at 0.304 Mt.
In the present study, carbon stocks of trees outside forests in Kurnool district was estimated through sampling of 143 hectare area in 413 plots. A total of 93 species belonging to 80 genera and 37 families were recorded in the sampled plots. Extrapolated biomass and carbon stocks are calculated for Kurnool district as 2.131 Mt and 1.012 Mt respectively. The carbon sequestration potential of the trees outside forests of Kurnool district is estimated at 3.197 Mt CO2.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
