Heats of mixing for 21 ternary systems of one n‐alkane + two n‐alcohols are reported at 25°C. Evaluation of four equations permitting the prediction of heats of mixing of ternary systems from binary data is made. Scatchard's modified equation for systems containing a polar component was found to be the most accurate.

A new semi‐continuous dilatometer which does not have the major drawbacks of the previous model was designed, constructed and tested, using the systems benzene‐cyclohexane and cyclohexane‐ethanol. The volumes of mixing of five systems made of n‐alcohols and cyclohexanc: were determined at 25°C.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
