SUMMARYThis work presents the CICABOT, a novel 3-DOF translational parallel manipulator (TPM) with large workspace. The manipulator consists of two 5-bar mechanisms connected by two prismatic joints; the moving platform is on the union of these prismatic joints; each 5-bar mechanism has two legs. The mobility of the proposed mechanism, based on Gogu approach, is also presented. The inverse and direct kinematics are solved from geometric analysis. The manipulator's Jacobian is developed from the vector equation of the robot legs; the singularities can be easily derived from Jacobian matrix. The manipulator workspace is determined from analysis of a 5-bar mechanism; the resulting workspace is the intersection of two hollow cylinders that is much larger than other TPM with similar dimensions.
Soft robotics is a rapidly advancing field that leverages the mechanical properties of flexible materials for applications necessitating safe interaction and exceptional adaptability within the environment. This paper focuses on developing a pneumatic soft robot bio-inspired in annelids or segmented worms. Segmentation, also called metamerism, increases the efficiency in body movement by allowing the effect of muscle contraction to generate peristaltic locomotion. The robot was built using elastomers by the casting technique. A sequence of locomotion based on two stages, relaxation and contraction, was proposed; the contraction stage is actuated by a vacuum pump. The locomotion performances are compared using different elastomers, such as Ecoflex 00-30, Dragon Skin 20, Mold Star 15 Slow, and Mold Star 30. Experimental tests were carried out inside a plexiglass pipe, 1 inch in diameter; a wide range of frequencies was tested for relaxation and contraction stages to evaluate the effect on the speed of the robot.
This paper proposes a methodology to analyze the resolution and variations in the positions of the 3RRR planar parallel mechanism driven by electrical actuators of discrete steps. This methodology consists of graphing and plotting all the possible combinations of angular movements of a three legs mechanism. This generates a “cloud of points” that will be the boundary of the control limits, so as to find the closest trajectory to a straight line. It was found that resolution, accuracy, and the approximation error improves when micro-steps are employed. For this purpose, it is necessary to determine direct and inverse kinematics, in order to calculate the workspace. A prototype was built to validate the methodology proposed.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
