The intervals between the melting points of the four allotropes of cyclooctasulfur (designated a, ß, y, and h) were measured by a microtechnique in sealed capillaries. New melting point values resulting from this work were ß 120.14°, a 115.11°, 7 108.60°, and 106.0°C, all appreciably higher than currently accepted values.
