This study aimed to elucidate the level of happiness and its influencing determinants among employees (teaching and non-teaching) of Visayas State University, Baybay City, Leyte, Philippines. With the aid of purposive sampling, the study engaged 162 employees as participants in the survey to gather richer information. The study utilized primary data, which were collected through a developed and structured questionnaires. The data were analyzed through descriptive analysis and econometric modeling. Results revealed that non-teaching employees are more likely happy working in a university. It was found out that the predictors of happiness in working in a university are: age, years in service, permanent status, opportunities for promotion, and fair administration. Employees found their respective jobs as challenging, enjoyable and rewarding. However, results showed that income is not a determinant of employees' happiness. Furthermore, employees who are socially oriented and physically healthy are more likely happy workers.
Critical thinking equips a person with the competencies needed and develops the power of the mind extensively. The development of critical thinking is known as an essential goal in educational systems. However, the assessment of critical thinking is not an easy feat. This study validated the critical thinking skills test in mathematics for senior high school students based on a model of critical thinking skills and learning areas of the K to 12 Mathematics Curriculum. The instrument validation process to 902 respondents through cluster sampling from different senior high schools. With an initial 45 items on three dimensions of critical thinking, the test's final form consisted of only 30 items after the items were screened based on the validation process. The content validation was carried out through an expert examination of the items and a comparison of the test results developed with Cornell's critical thinking for criterion-related validity evidence (r = 0.299, p < 0.01). Construct validation by factor analysis, and results generated 13 factors accounting for 58.51% of the variance. These results indicated that the developed mathematics critical thinking test measured other than the specified critical thinking skills model used. The developed test may try to assess students' critical thinking in the context of mathematics. Furthermore, this may contribute to promoting teaching and assessment strategies gears towards the development of students' mathematical critical thinking.
Psychological testing in schools is a beneficial activity that helps a student achieve their goals and helps diagnosed social, cognitive, or behavioral problems. This study aimed to assess the psychological test results of education students in a Philippine state university. The study utilized secondary data from 443 education students at the university. Descriptive measures and multiple regression models were employed in evaluating the data and determining the influencing factor of psychological test results, respectively. Results revealed that the selected demographic variables as gender, degree program, type of high school, and over-all grade point average have no significant association with the psychological test results of education students. Furthermore, this study has documented the robust and positive evidence that Mathematics and English grade point average contributed to the psychological test scores of the students. The results go to infer that students with a good background in Mathematics and English subjects in high school have a good foundation in analytical and logical thinking during college.
