This is the alarming time to concentrate on renewable source of energy in the transportation sector. World is facing problem because of energy crisis and the augmented rate of environmental degradation. Biogas is naturally produced from the decomposition of organic matter and it has potential to run internal combustion engines. In this study, experimental investigation is carried out with Biomethanepetrol dual-fuel spark ignition engine. Experimental setup is developed in such a way that the spark ignition engine is working on gas-liquid dual-fuel mode. Experimentation is carried out by varying engine operating parameters like load, and energy shares of biomethane fuel to analyze the performance and emissions of the engine. Biomethane energy shares used are 70, 80, 90 and 100% of total energy developed by the engine. It is observed from experimental results that the engine shows better performance for 70% substitution of biomethane; however, it is lower than 100% petrol operation. It is also observed that maximum power developed by engine decreases as biomethane energy share increases.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
