Introduction:Virtual reality gives its users the feeling that they are living there since it combines fiction, technology, reality, and imagination.. It is also called virtual simulation technology as the current and future trends for pain management. Aim of the study: This study aimed to evaluate effect of immersive virtual reality on labor pain, anxiety and satisfaction among primigravida. Design of the study: Quiz experimental design control& intervention was utilized. Study Setting: This study was applied at Sherbin Cental Hospital at labor and deliver unit at, Dakahlia Governorate, Egypt, from February 2022 to July 2022. Subjects: 56 women per each group were selected according to inclusion criteria by random assignment to compare between the intervention (VR) and the control group (a routine hospital care).Tools: Data was collected through one tool included four parts, A Structured Interview Questionnaire Schedule, the Numerical Rating Scale; State-Anxiety scale &Virtual Reality Satisfaction. Results: This study found that there was no statistically significant difference regarding pain & anxiety score before intervention (1-3cm) among both groups. While there was a highly statistically significant difference regarding pain & anxiety score after the first intervention (4-6cm), after the second intervention (7-8cm), and after the third intervention (9-10cm) among the intervention & control groups p=0.000 . Also, there was a statistically significant difference regarding the duration of first stage among control & intervention groups p=0.002. In addition parturient women in the intervention group (VR) were more satisfied by using it. Conclusion: this study concluded that using VR during first stage of labor had a significantly improvement in reducing pain level & anxiety. Also, intervention group was more satisfied with using virtual reality. Recommendations: Trials for applying Virtual Reality as a one of routine hospital care during childbirth to improve childbirth experience.
Background: In Problem-based learning (PBL), students work cooperatively to solve complex, real-world problems. It is considered as the most significant educational innovation in the past 35 years. PBL is a powerful class room activity, which uses real-world problems to motivate students to identify and apply research concepts and information, work collaboratively and communicate effectively. The study aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of problem-based learning versus the traditional lecture and assess the learning styles of the undergraduate students in nursing education. Design: Quiz-experimental research design was adopted for this study. A convenient sample of all 80 undergraduate nursing students in the Faculty of Nursing Sohag University were included in the study from March to May 2015.Tools: Data were collected using Focus-group interview method and two questionnaire sheets. Results: The current study showed that there was an improvement in the achievement outcome in the post-test in PBL group (9.83%) than in the lecture group (7.57%). High percentage of students (58.8%) preferred visual style of learning while audio and tactile styles were preferred among 31.2%and 10.0% respectively. Conclusion: PBL is effective and improved students' achievement outcome. Recommendation: Applying the new PBL curriculum and introducing students to the PBL program help them to work cooperatively in identification of the appropriate learning questions.
Background: Pain and delayed breastfeeding initiation is the most typical complications following a cesarean operation, which affect women's comfort. Adverse effects of using medications to relieve pain and lack of access to them for some women have led to an increase in the application of non-drug methods such as massage. Aim: To assess the effect of deep tissue massage on women's wound pain, comfort, and breastfeeding after cesarean section. Design: The study employed a single-blinded, randomized clinical trial. Setting: The study was conducted at the postpartum ward at Women's Health Hospital, Assuit University. Subjects: with a convenient sample size of 160 women (divided into two equal groups study and control). Tools: Structured interview, Visual Analogue Scale, Postpartum Comfort Questionnaire, and Breastfeeding Assessment Scale Latch LATCH were the four tools used. In the study group, DTM was implemented. Results: There is a highly statistically significant difference in wound pain, comfort, and breastfeeding following cesarean section between the study and control groups p<0.01. Conclusion: Applying DTM played a vital role in the management of post-cesarean section (CS) pain and improving mothers' comfort, and breastfeeding. Recommendations: DTM should be recommended in hospital protocols for the management of post-cesarean pain that leads to improvement comfort, and encouraging breastfeeding.
Background: Nursing staff are at the frontline defense against the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic. Inadequate knowledge and incorrect attitudes among maternity nurses can directly influence practices and lead to delayed diagnosis, poor infection control practice, and spread of disease. Aim: Assess maternity nurses' KAP about covod19 & evaluate the effect of educational program on improving maternity nurses' knowledge, attitude and practice of preventive measures towards COVID19. Methods: Quasi experimental research design was used in this study. It was conducted at different departments of Women Health Hospital, Assiut University. Sample A convenient sample of a total 159 maternity nurses included in the study. Structured interview questionnaire was used and included two parts. An educational program was implemented to maternity nurses regarding COVID19. Results: there is highly statistical significance difference between pre & post program regarding total knowledge, attitude and practice of preventive measures towards COVID19 among studied maternity nurses p-value 0.001. Conclusion: The implementation of educational program significantly improved studied nurses' knowledge, attitude and practice of preventive measures toward COVID 19 evidenced by the pretest and posttest knowledge scores. Recommendations: Provide a continuous education and training programs to maternity nurses regarding COVID19 to achieve optimistic attitude and maintain safe practice regarding compliance with the preventive measures of COVID19.
