Introduction Uncertainty occurrence of disasters requires special attention and a shortage of health care specialists is a challenge for health care systems; therefore, the use of telenursing care during a disaster is an appropriate way to provide care. This study aimed to investigate telenursing operational possibilities in disasters. Methods A cross-sectional study was performed by implementing a functional exercise (Drill) for the possibility of nursing interventions in the response phase to disasters at Kerman University of Medical Sciences in 2021. Two evaluators examined and scored the possibility of providing telenursing care using a researcher-made checklist and we surveyed Inter-rater agreement between two evaluators by Cohen's kappa coefficient. Data were analyzed using descriptive tests and SPSS 20 software. Results Findings showed that implementation of telenursing care would be helpful in future disasters. The scores received from assessment of the evaluation checklist for this simulated exercise program by the first evaluator was 83.25 and for the second evaluator was 72.00. The results of the study showed that the mean score of the possibility of telenursing in disasters was at a high level 77.50. Thus, the quality of the telenursing care in simulated conditions was satisfactory. Conclusion Today, disaster management is almost impossible without using new technologies. This study found that due to the lack of specialized nursing staff in the deprived areas affected by disasters, the most important way to provide health care for a large group of the population is to develop effective health services so that everyone can use these services equally and fairly.
The current literature on telenursing in incidents and disasters indicates that the use of technology is seen as a significant strategy for addressing the continually increasing demand for care. However, in disaster management, this technology has not been implemented. This article contributes the main finding that because of the shortage of specialized nurses in disaster areas, the presence of this group in the telehealth program will provide a new platform for care. Thus, telenursing offers a means of improving disaster response that has not been well researched.The key implication for emergency nursing practice from this study is that telenursing may be helpful in cases such as wound management, trauma care, and triage during disasters.
INTRODUCTION: Unusual impacts of disasters on normal living conditions pose challenges to the health system. Nurses who take care of disaster victims may face situations that make decision-making difficult; hereon, the use of new technologies can be a useful solution. The study aimed to identify the telenursing care during incidents and disasters. METHODS: The study was conducted at a medical science university in Iran from 2018 to 2019. This was a semi-structured interview-based qualitative study using content analysis. Eighteen nurses, nursing teachers, and emergency medical technicians were included in the study. Data analysis was performed using inductive content analysis and coding with MAXQDA (2010) software. The Lincoln and Guba (1985) trustworthiness criteria were used for the reliability and validity of the data. RESULTS: Telenursing in critical and supportive care was the main theme identified from data analysis. This theme included six main categories: (1) management of trauma, (2) technical skills, (3) care and decision-making in stressful situations, (4) management of patients with special needs, (5) life-saving intervention, and (6) psychological and emotional supports. CONCLUSIONS: Telenursing in disasters is the turning point of the care management of victims. In order to achieve this goal, nurses should acquire the relevant knowledge, skills, and abilities.
Introduction: COVID- 19 outbreak was a threat and opportunity for health care systems. Nurses play an important role in COVID-19 pandemic management. Inadequate knowledge, inappropriate attitude and, practice response among nurses might lead to delayed care, and result in the rapid spread of infection. Therefore, this study aims to determine the attitude, knowledge, and practice response among nurses towards the COVID-19 outbreak. Methods: This cross- sectional, descriptive study was conducted at a military hospital (Seyed Alshohada Hospital), based a on census sampling method in Kerman, Iran. Data were collected from January to February, 2021, using a self- report questionnaire. The questionnaire was distributed among 122 nurses. Data were imported to SPSS v.17 for analysis. Results: A total of 99 nurses participated in this study. Knowledge, attitude, and practice scores towards COVID- 19 were good. According to the data obtained, the majority had a bachelor, s degree, and most respondents were women (68%). The result of this study showed that 98% took practical infection prevention measures towards COVID-19. Also, our findings indicated that 91% of the study participants had favorable attitudes towards COVID-19. Discussion: Results showed that participants were knowledgeable, held positive attitudes, and took effective measures for COVID-19. COVID-19 pandemic and other novel diseases are a challenge for all health systems; therefore, it is necessary to enhance knowledge and skills of nurses.
