Fuzzy logic is a branch of artificial intelligence that has been used extensively in developing Fuzzy systems and models. These systems usually offer artificial intelligence based on the predictive mathematical models used; in this case linear regression mathematical model. Interval type 2 Gaussian fuzzy logic is a fuzzy logic that utilizes Gaussian upper membership function and the lower membership function, with a footprint of uncertainty in between the Gaussian membership functions. The artificial intelligence solutions predicted by these interval type 2 fuzzy systems depends on the training and the resultant linear regression mathematical model developed, which usually extract their training data from the expert knowledge stored in their knowledge bases. The variances in the expert knowledge stored in these knowledge-bases usually affect the overall accuracy of the linear regression predictive models of these systems, due to the variances in the training data. This research therefore establishes the extent that these variances in knowledge bases affect the predictive accuracy of these models, with a case study on knowledge bases used to predict learners’ knowledge level abilities. The calculated linear regression predictive models show that for every variance in the knowledge base, there occurs a change in linear regression predictive model with an intercept value factor commensurate to the variances and their respective weights in the knowledge bases.
Natural language is a crucial tool to facilitate communication in our day-to-day activities. This can be achieved either in text or speech forms. Natural language processing (NLP) involves making computers understand and process natural language. NLP has enhanced the way humans interact with computers, from having computers use speech to talk to humans as well as having computers translate human speech. Apart from speech, computers also create and understand sentences in natural language in a process called morphological analysis. Morphological analysis is an important part in natural language processing, being applied as a preprocessing step in most NLP tasks. Morphological analysis consists of four subtasks, that is, lemmatization, part-of-speech (POS) tagging, word segmentation and stemming. In this paper, we explore in detail each of these tasks of morphological analysis. We then evaluate the techniques used in this NLP field. Finally, we give a summary of the results of each of these techniques.
Plant Stress detection is a vital farming activity for enhanced productivity of crops and food security. Convolution Neural Networks (CNN) focuses on the complex relationships on input and output layers of neural networks for prediction. This task further helps in detecting the behavior of crops in response to biotic and abiotic stressors in reducing food losses. The enhancement of crop productivity for food security depends on accurate stress detection. This paper proposes and investigates the application of deep neural network to the tomato pests and disease stress detection. The images captured over a period of six months are treated as historical dataset to train and detect the plant stresses. The network structure is implemented using Google’s machine learning Tensor-flow platform. A number of activation functions were tested to achieve a better accuracy. The Rectifier linear unit (ReLU) function was tested. The preliminary results show increased accuracy over other activation functions.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
