Speech is considered as a basic fundamental means of communication, which makes the human being superior than other forms of life. Speech and language therapist judgement of speech is consider as the most perfect because the assessment is mainly subjective and it depends on the perception of individual. This will involve both assessment of the intelligibility and quality of the patient’s speech, and observation of the visible aspects of articulation. The best way is to use perpetual assessment, to highlight potential areas of difficulty, then objective, instrumental assessment of these areas, to confirm the nature and severity of their involvement. Correlation of the vocal signal changes with the characteristics of the prosthesis and the specific types of errors in the prosthetic act would be an essential achievement in the way of improving the outcome of the prosthetic action. It is the responsibility of the prosthodontist to construct dentures as accurately as possible, so as to improve speech sound production with dentures, minimize the period of adaptation and thereby, increase the self-confidence of the patient. For this its very important to have knowledge about assessment of speech. Since past many years clinicians have faced problems in assessing speech. In this article clinical application of speech test in relation to complete dentures have been highlighted.
Aims: the aim of the current study is to assess the quantity of sorption and solubility seen in the soft denture liner with herbal (neem) and commercially (clinsodent) available denture cleanser. Materials and Methods: The cross sectional study was carried out in the Department of Prosthodontics at Sharad Pawar Dental College And Hospital between February 2021 and July 2021. 52 samples of heat cured acrylic resin of circular shape were prepared using a stainless steel mould. The resilient liner was applied to all the samples using a denture adhesive. All samples will then be desiccated for 24 hours to get a stable or conditioned weight W1. The samples will then be divided into 2 groups namely: Group A (clinsodent group) and the Group B (herbal denture cleanser group). All the samples were immersed daily in cleanser for 8 hour and then transferred to artificial saliva for rest 16 hours of the day. Solutions of artificial saliva and denture cleanser was changed daily for the entire period of study that is 7 days. Later, all the test samples were removed from saliva, wiped dry, weighed for saturated weight W2. - After desiccating again for 24 hours the samples were again assessed for renovated weight that is W3. Results: With respect to sorption and solubility it was found that the clinsodent group exhibited greater percentage of sorption when compared to the neem denture cleanser group after a period of 7 days, p-values of 0.0001,S. Conclusion: It can be established that the solubility and sorption values of clinsodent group were higher when compared to the herbal denture cleanser group. Overall, neem in the form of denture cleanser performed better than clinsodent.
BACK GR O U ND Since the emergence of nCoV-19, till date it has affected several countries. This disease which is now called COVID-19 [(termed by World Health Organization (WHO)] is caused by a novel coronavirus, labelled as severe acute respiratoy syndrome-Coronavirus-2 (SARS-CoV-2) (termed by International Committee on Taxonomy of Viruses). Belonging to the family of Coronaviridae, of the order Nidovirales, it comprises of large, solitary, plus-stranded ribo nucleic acid (RNA) in their genome. The 2019-nCoV explored in Wuhan belongs to the β-CoV according to the phylogenetic analysis based on the viral genome, and it chiefly infects the respiratory, gastrointestinal, and central nervous system of humans and mammals. Its primary means of spread is either directly or indirectly by the means of droplets via the respiratory tract and fomites respectively. The most common routinely used instruments in the field of dentistry include airotors in the form of rotatory instruments and other surgical instruments. In the meantime, these instruments produce aerosols in the form of both larger and smaller droplets which generally consist of saliva, blood, microorganisms and other debris. Therefore due to possible aerosol and droplet production in the dental profession, nCoV-19 poses a significant risk of infection transmission. To combat nCoV-19, it is essential for a dental clinician to finely tune the protective approaches by concentrating towards the patient safety, personal protective gear and maintaining the hand hygiene. In addition to its modes of diffusion in dentistry, some other important themes like management of the patient, patient instructions and guidelines that a dentist should follow in day to day practice have been raised in this review. Rehabilitating patients with partial edentulism always pose countless challenges to the clinicians. Despite of the popularity of fixed options many individuals opt for removable prosthesis as an alternative due to monetary constraints, local anatomic factors and several medical conditions contradicting the use of fixed prosthesis. This case report describes the oral rehabilitation of two patients exhibiting Kennedys class 1 and class 2 conditions, respectively. In the first case, the patient was already a cast partial denture wearer and reported to the Department of Prosthodontics for the replacement of the same due to broken mandibular partial denture. However, in the second case the patient sought replacement of the missing mandibular teeth in the form of a removable partial denture. In both the cases the cast partial dentures were fabricated using Computer Aided Designing and Computer Aided Manufacturing (CAD-CAM). The patients have shown enhancement in the fit of the prosthesis and at the same time shriveled the human handling faults, indistinctness, and surplus time period as well as the cost.
