Reduction O 0220Cu(I)-Mediated Deoxygenation of N-Oxides to Amines. -An effective deoxygenation of aliphatic and aromatic N-oxides is achieved with CuI in aprotic solvents. CuCl is found to be as effective as CuI and works at room temperature. The deoxygenation of heteroarene N-oxides and N-oxides (IX) affords either CuI-Zn or CuI-Al combinations in EtOH at reflux temperature to give quantitative yields. Sensitive groups remain unaffected under these conditions; some dechlorination occurs in the deoxygenation of 2-chloro-and 2,6-dichloropyridine N-oxides. In the case of chloroquinoline (XId) no side reaction takes place. -(SINGH*, S. K.; REDDY, M. S.; MANGLE, M.; GANESH, K. R.; Tetrahedron 63 (2007) 1, 126-130; Chem.-Discovery Res., Dr. Reddy's Lab.
