Two new chelate ligands, 6-methyl-6-(pyridin-2-yl)-1,4-bis-[(pyridin-2-yl)methyl]-1,4-diazepane (4a) and 6-methyl-6-(pyridin-2-yl)-1,4-bis[2-(pyridin-2-yl)ethyl]-1,4-diazepane (4b), were synthesized from pyridine-derived precursors in three-step procedures. Both ligands have N 5 donor sets consisting of two tertiary amine and three pyridyl N atoms. Complexation with FeCl 2 or FeBr 2 in MeOH followed by anion exchange with (nBu 4 N)PF 6 gave the complexes [Fe(4a)X]PF 6 and [Fe(4b)X]PF 6 (X = Cl, Br) in moderate-to-good yields. The coordination geometry around the iron(II) centre, as determined by single-crystal X-ray diffraction, is strongly dis-
Na atoms were excited and polarized by pumping the Na 3s 2S1/2 → 3p 2P1/2 3/2 transition using a linearly or circularly polarized dye-laser beam. Linearly polarized synchrotron radiation raised these atoms to core excited Na 2p5 nl n'l' 2,4L states lying below the Na 2p5 3p 3P ionization limit. The intensity of the electrons ejected upon the Na 2p5 nl n'l' 2,4 L → Na 2p6 1S0 εl autoionization was measured as a function of VUV-photon energy
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
