Objective: to understand the perception of nursing staff professionals and legal guardians of children and adolescents with cancer regarding Assisted Therapy with dogs. Method: qualitative study based on participant observation conducted with 16 participants in a reference hospital of child cancer. We applied an in-depth interview and interpreted the data according to a content analysis technique. Results: the practice is admittedly benefi cial to participants despite the fact they do not understand its true objectives and therapeutic applications. Participants only associate it with something distracting and entertaining without realizing the occurrence of a more complex process behind it, which comprises changes besides the emotional ones (more easily perceived). Conclusion: the perceptions of participants reinforce recommendations that can be applied in the hospital environment, also showing that the therapy in question can become an effective technology to promote the health of children and adolescents with cancer. Introduction: Accidents in chilhood are an important theme for Public Health due to what they represent and also to the repercussions for the childrens Health and their community. In this perspective, nursing, particularly in Latin America, has developed few initiatives focused on prevention strategies against domestic accidents; therefore, diagnostic studies are needed to identify this reality especially at home environment. Objective: To investigate the association between risk factors and occurrence of domestic accidents involving children under the age of five in a municipality in the countryside of northeastern Brazil. Method: Analytical, cross-sectional study, conducted with 330 caregivers by using a form for environmental observation as well as a socio-demographic questionnaire. Results: Accidents occurred at home in 97% of cases, with falls being the most common (88.2%). The logistic regression model showed that if there are more than four residents in the household, the probability of accidents increases by 2.9 times; the presence of stairs/steps with no handrail increases the chance by 14.9 times; exits and passageways that are blocked with toys, or other obstructive items, increase the risk by 11.3 times; cleaning products/insecticides stored in low places increases the number of accident by almost 16 times.
Objective: to identify two features of primary health care, namely First-contact access and Longitudinality in hospitalized children. Methods: cross-sectional study carried out in two hospitals with 120 children under five years of age hospitalized due to sensitive conditions of primary health care. Data collection performed using the Primary Care Assessment Tool. Results: the degree of affiliation obtained a better score (approximately 8.0), being the only one among all components of the instrument satisfactorily evaluated (≥6.6). Longitudinality (>4.0) had a lower score than First-contact access (5.6). According to the parents, the nurse was the professional who had most performed the follow-up in childcare. Conclusion: the results point to weaknesses in services and carergivers' dissatisfaction, evidenced by the poor following to the Primary Health Care principles. Descriptors: Child Care; Primary Health Care; Nursing. Objectives: to analyze the knowledge of nurses working in Primary Health Care Units about regional foods, food & nutritional safety. Methods: a cross-sectional study conducted with 71 nurses working in health care units in the city of Fortaleza, Ceará. Data were obtained through administration of two questionnaires, subsequently analyzed through statistical tests. Results: a satisfactory level of knowledge was found for most nurses, and it was evident that those with graduate degrees had greater knowledge about ‘regional food basics’ (p=0,014) and ‘frequency of use of regional foods’ (p=0,014); the age of the professionals had an inversely proportional relationship with the knowledge about the ‘concept of food & nutritional safety’ (p=0,009). Conclusions: nurses had satisfactory knowledge about the themes addressed, and professionals should be encouraged to improve their knowledge and instruct families on the importance of a diet based on regional foods.
Introduction: The kangaroo-mother care method is an approach adopted in Brazil as a public police, which has helped in the reduction of neonatal mortality rate. Premature birth and its vulnerabilities can trigger, especially in mothers, feelings of fear and insecurity related to taking care of newborns.
