Edamame is a food-grade soybean [Glycine max (L.) Merr.] that is harvested immature between the R6 and R7 reproductive stages. To be labeled as a premium product, the edamame market demands large pod size and intense green color. A staggered harvest season is critical for the commercial industry to post-harvest process the crop in a timely manner. Currently, there is little information to assist in predicting the optimum time to harvest edamame when the pods are at their collective largest size and greenest color. The objectives of this study were to assess the impact of cultivar, planting date, and harvest date on edamame color, pod weight, and a newly minted Edamame Harvest Quality Index combining both aforementioned factors. And to predict edamame harvest quality based on phenological stages, thermal units, and planting dates. We observed that pod color and weight depended on the cultivar, planting date, and harvest date combination. Our results also indicated that edamame quality is increased with delayed planting dates and that quality was dependent on harvest date with a quadratic negative response to delaying harvest. Maximum quality depended on cultivar and planting and harvest dates, but it remained stable for an interval of 18–27 days around the peak. Finally, we observed that the number of days between R1 and harvest was consistently identified as a key factor driving edamame quality by both stepwise regression and neural network analysis. These research results will help define a planting and harvest strategy for edamame production in Arkansas and the United States Mid-South.
We report the synthesis and characterization of two new mesoferrocenylporphyrins, with the ferrocenyl unit attached at the para position of a C 6 F 4 group by a C-N bond with -NH(CH 2 ) 2 NH-(2a) and -NH(CH 2 ) 4 NH-(2b) spacers. Compounds 2a and 2b were characterized through elemental analyses, electrospray ionization high-resolution mass spectrometry, 1 H NMR, UV-visible and fluorescence spectroscopies, electrochemistry and spectroelectrochemistry. The free base porphyrin 2 was included for comparison purposes. The binding ability of 2 and the porphyrin derivatives 2a and 2b with calf thymus DNA was determined using UV-visible and fluorescence spectroscopies. The results suggest that the interaction of these systems most probably occurs through π-stacking by non-classical modes involving the partial insertion of the C 6 F 5 ring between adjacent base pairs on DNA and possible hydrogen interaction with the aliphatic -NH(CH 2 ) n NH-(n = 2 or 4) groups with calf thymus DNA. Moreover, we also demonstrate that porphyrins generate singlet oxygen species and show good photostability after irradiation.

AbstractThis article intends to revisit the theoretical debate about the dynamics of news selection and news construction based on a reference board related to the sociology of fields by Pierre Bourdieu. The discussion starts from an introductory approach about the relevance of the professional routines in the constructive process of news content. Afterward, the Bourdieu's concept of habitus is inserted as an explicative-key for the relation between the journalistic praxis and the attribution of a hegemonic sense to the news. The newsworthiness parameters are interpreted as symbolic representations incorporated to the journalistic professional habitus based on the identification and categorization as news of those events which are dissonant from the everyday regularity.
