An 18‐item questionnaire was issued to 110 outpatients presenting with shoulder‐arm‐neck pain, commonly known as repetition strain injury but more accurately known as occupational overuse syndrome. This was accompanied by SLC‐90‐R and Locus of Personal Control personality scales. Respondents were asked to provide information on their condition, level of activity and employment status and to rate the treatment received. Occupational therapy treatments and a rehabilitation team approach to treatment were perceived by a majority of clients as useful in their treatment. The SCL‐90‐R failed to show any significant population trend, while the Locus of Personal Control indicated that one third felt their lives were controlled by external events. The need for further research is highlighted.
