The development of innovative chemistry learning material for bilingual Senior High School (SHS) students in Indonesia is explained. The study is aimed to obtain an innovative chemistry learning material based on national curriculum in Indonesia to be used as a learning media in the teaching and learning activities. The learning material is developed by enhancing the chemistry topics to meet the requirement of a national curriculum followed by integration of laboratory experiments, learning media, and contextual application of the relevant chemistry topics. The material is then designed in printed and electronic bases. The performance of developed chemistry material is standardized to meet good quality learning material for class purposes. The results showed that the performance of developed chemistry materials is categorized as very good. The developed learning material is found effective to be used in teaching and learning process, and be able to motivate the students to learn chemistry. The facilities provided in the material are adequate to guide the student to study chemistry independently that make learning activities moving from teacher centre learning become students centre learning. Students achievements in experimental class (M = 83.0) is found higher than that with control class (M = 73.5), where both are significantly different. There is a positive correlation between the student's motivations with the student's achievement in chemistry subject, where the correlation in experimental class (R² = 0.711) is better than in control class (R² = 0.467).
This study aims to determine the feasibility of teaching materials oriented critical thinking ability grade XI SMA developed. This research includes research and development with 3D development model (define, design and develop). The teaching materials developed were validated based on aspects of material feasibility, language and media by experts using validation sheets in accordance with BSNP standards and then the validated teachng materials were distributed to two teachers and grade XI students at Sultan Agung Private High School and SMAN 1 Pematangsiantar to find out the response of teachers and students using questionnaires. The results of the study found that expert validation of teaching materials developed has an average score of 4.17 in terms of content feasibility, 4.20 for the aspect of presentation feasibility, 4.33 for the linguistic aspect and 4.19 from the aspect of graphation. While students' response to critical thinking ability-oriented module teaching materials had average scores of 3.80 and 3.82 and teacher responses averaged a score of 4.27, judging by interest indicators, material indicators and language indicators. These results show that the critical thinking ability-oriented teaching materials developed have met valid and good criteria for use. This research aimed to provide an innovative chemistry learning material with guided tasks to improve students’ competence in Chemistry. It involved 180 students enrolled in the Analytical Chemistry course at State University of Medan in academic year of 2016/2017. The samples were purposively selected and divided into two groups. The research consisted of several steps including enrichment, innovation and standardization of learning material, followed by implementation of the developed learning material in class. A set of good quality learning material equipped with the guided task for Gravimetry topic has been provided. It contained relevant contextual examples, laboratory works, students’ activities, multimedia, and hyperlink to trustworthy websites. Implementation of innovative learning material has been conducted by using a set of developed learning material in the experimental class while the existing textbook was used in the control class. The research findings highlighted several points: (1) well-implemented innovative learning material was effective to improve the students’ competence; (2) learning outcome in experimental class was found higher than that in control class; (3) the guided task in the learning package facilitated the students to learn the selected chemistry topic independently which in turn shifted student learning style from lecturer-oriented to student-oriented; (4) the guided task not only made the students be familiar with searching for scientific documents to complete the given tasks but also improved the students’ ability to write and organize their assignments; (5) students’ academic attitudes, observed during the learning activities, were categorized as very good. Keyword: innovative learning material, guided tasks, independent learning, students’ competence.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
