Referring to the new policy on National Curriculum of 2013, in which one of its objectives is to empower teachers to develop the potential of the region, and answering the gap between the curriculum demand on the local content development and the lack of local content development on the provided materials being used to teach English in Central Kalimantan, this paper attempts to introduce ecolinguistics as the local content development in EFL classrooms of Junior High School level. The ecolinguistics inserted in the lesson plan is a narrative text of a local story, and a procedure text of how to make traditional soup from young rattan. The teaching model was executed in SMPN 1 and SMPN 3, Kuala Kapuas. The teaching English using ecolinguistics was completed with exercises for students to comprehend meanings of a lexicon list of environmental expressions taken from the texts and use them in their writing. Understanding ecolinguisticsthe use of environmental linguistic expressions will lead to a meaningful teaching and learning process. Therefore, as the follow-up it is necessary to develop instructional material consisting of environmental linguistic expressions.
This study focuses on the theory of Asian solidarity of another genealogy that did not support the fascist regime and World War II to understand more accurately the discussion on thoughts of Asian solidarity in the 21st century. These include the thoughts of Miyazaki Toten and Yoshino Sakuzo and are characterized by the following: (1) they involved universalism and Christianity, (2) they were critical to Japan leader theory (3) and they argued for universalism as a way to build Asia.
This study was conducted to investigate the analysis of clause complex of analytical exposition text written by the English teachers of SMKN 2 Palangka Raya. Considering that teachers have important role in education field, in which teachers have a function as the model in teaching learning process, especially in teaching English and it is the consideration that the subjects of the study will be the English teachers. The study design of this study was descriptive qualitative. By means of a descriptive study under Systemic Functional Linguistics theory as suggested by Halliday & Matthiessen (2014), the writers employ the analysis of taxis systems which cover elaboration, extension, and enhancement. Besides, logico-semantic relation is also analyzed which covers projection and expansion The data will be analyzed through systemic functional approach in which the analysis of the data will be based the clauses and its taxis (protasis and hypotaxis) along with its logico-semantic relations from text by the teacher.
Society and language cannot be separated, both have a relationship where society can be formed by the language they use. The diversity of languages used by teachers and students in EFL classroom interaction at MAN Katingan represents the existence of a bilingual or multilingual community. This research was conducted to describe how is the language use in EFL classroom interaction. The type of this research was descriptive research using the qualitative method. The subject were one of the English teachers and the students of the eleventh grade of MAN Katingan. The data collection was done by questionnaire using a google form to students and interview was done to the English teacher. The result showed the use of language at MAN Katingan in EFL classroom interaction was varied enough. Based on the students’ view, teacher and students used 24,7% English, 40,4% Indonesian, 8,4% Banjarese, 0,9% Dayakese, and 26,2% mixed the language or used code-switching and code-mixing in EFL classroom interaction. On the other hand, the teacher stated that she mostly used code-switching and code-mixing. Sometimes, she used the local language to interact with the students in her EFL classroom.Keywords: language use: EFL: classroom interaction: sociolinguistics study
