Objective To analyze the risk factors in the domestic environment for the occurrence of falls in children under five years of age. Method A cross-sectional study was conducted in May and in June of 2016 with 344 caregivers of children from Northeast Brazil. A socio-economic questionnaire and a checklist for environmental observation were used. Bivariate analyzes were performed using Pearson's Chi-square test. Results They were associated with the risk of falls in children under 5 years of age: High net (p = 0.015), presence of stairs or steps without a handrail (p=0.003), and exits and passages kept with toys, furniture, boxes or other items that may be obstructive (p=0.002). Conclusion The factors in the domestic environment identified as associated with the risk of falls in children under five years of age demonstrate that there is a need to construct prevention strategies related to the structure and organization of this environment.
Introduction: Domestic accidents are one of the main causes of death among children, characterized by an event that involves multiple determinants, emphasizing, among others, intrapersonal, interpersonal, cultural and institutional factors. Objective: To analyse the determinants of domestic accidents in early childhood. Methods: This is an exploratory, descriptive, and cross-sectional study carried out in the Emergency Hospital of Teresina city, Piauí, Brazil, between January and March 2016. The population was composed of 21 caregivers of children under five years old, hospitalized between January and March 2016. For data collection, a structured interview was conducted on aspects related to the risk factors associated with the incidence of domestic accidents involving children. A descriptive analysis was performed, with absolute and relative frequencies for the variables. The Human Research Ethics Committee approved the research with Protocol No. 1324184. Results: In relation to intrapersonal factors, pre-school children were the main victims (57.2%). For interpersonal factors, it was observed that most of participants (85.7%) considered the household unsafe for children. The evaluation of institutional factors showed that most caregivers (52.4%) had not been advised about the prevention of accidents at home. In terms of cultural factors, most participants (81%) had not heard news about domestic accidents. Conclusion: Parents and caregivers have very limited knowledge about the prevention of childhood accidents at home, with male pre-schoolers the main victims of domestic accidents.
Objective: to analyze the factors associated with childhood accidents at home according to the levels of the social determinants of health. Method: integrative review of the literature, with research in databases CINAHL, LILACS and PubMed, with the following main descriptors: child; social determinants of health; accidentes, home. We included 31 studies that related the social determinants of health and childhood accidents, in English, Portuguese and Spanish. Results: the proximal determinants identified were: age and sex of children, and ethnicity. Among the intermediate determinants of health, parental behavior, related to the supervision of an adult, prevailed. Parental employment and socioeconomic status were identified as distal determinants. Conclusion: the age and sex of the child, besides direct supervision, were the determinants most associated with accidents. The distal determinants should be better studied because their relation with the occurrence of domestic accidents has not been sufficiently clarified. DOMESTIC ACCIDENTS AMONG CHILDREN: PRACTICAL CONCEPTIONS OF COMMUNITY HEALTH WORKERSABSTRACT: This qualitative, descriptive-exploratory research aimed to understand the practical work of the Community Health Workers regarding domestic accidents among children below five years old. The data show that it is essential to plan an appropriate methodology to be undertaken with the Community Health Workers, which favors the qualification of their practice in the ambit of children's health in the context of domestic accidents. These results may contribute to the rediscussion of the Continuous Education in Health practices and encourage investment from the managers of the Unified Health System in formative and emancipatory educational actions.
Objectives: to analyze the contents on patient safety in the training of nursing technicians. Methods: a documentary study, conducted in three technical nursing courses at a public university in northeastern Brazil, based on the Multi-Professional Patient Safety Curriculum Guide, published by the World Health Organization. Results: we found that, of the 26 subjects in each course, the tracking terms were found in 22 subjects in the A/C courses, 23 in the B course. The topics of the guide with the highest number of terms were the improvement in medication safety, with 85 terms (22.6%), and Infection prevention and control, with 75 terms (20%). The contents do not express the comprehensiveness of patient safety education; some subjects had this focus, while others did not. Conclusions: the documents revealed gaps in the contents related to patient safety and demonstrated that they are addressed only in the course syllabus and discipline plans.
