Accidental exposure to hazelnut or peanut constitutes a real threat to the health of allergic consumers. Correct information regarding food product ingredients is of paramount importance for the consumer, thereby reducing exposure to food allergens. In this study, 569 cookies and chocolates on the European market were purchased. All products were analysed to determine peanut and hazelnut content, allowing a comparison of the analytical results with information provided on the product label. Compared to cookies, chocolates are more likely to contain undeclared allergens, while, in both food categories, hazelnut traces were detected at higher frequencies than peanut. The presence of a precautionary label was found to be related to a higher frequency of positive test results. The majority of chocolates carrying a precautionary label tested positive for hazelnut, whereas peanut traces were not be detected in 75% of the cookies carrying a precautionary label.
Most studies related to the culture of cucumbers refer only to germination, emergence and development of leaves and fruit, the nutrients used and their efficiency. This study assesses the influence of different types of soilless substrates (Perlite -2 mm, Perlite -4 mm, Perlite -5 mm, Jiffy and Jiffy + 50% Perlite -4 mm) on the content of nitrate, carbohydrates, chlorophyll, proteins, invertase activity and dry matter in cucumber leaves, stems and fruit grown on the respective substrates. The highest production was obtained on Perlite -4 mm. The nitrates content was below the maximum admitted limit for all samples. Dry matter content of fruit depended on substrate in succession Jiffy, Perlite -5 mm, Perlite 4 mm, Perlite 2 mm and Jiffy+Perlite 4 mm. The highest content of total chlorophyll was both in leaves as well as relating to fruit of plants grown on Perlite 5mm. The protein concentrations in fruits decrease in the order Jiffy, Perlite -4 mm, Perlite -5 mm, Perlite -2 mm and Jiffy+Perlite -4 mm. Both carbohydrates and invertase activity have the highest values in fruits. When, reducing sugars content is very high invertase activity corresponding is low. The highest level of reducing sugars was found in fruits grown on Jiffy followed by those developed on Perlite -2 mm. Although, Jiffy substrate shows very good results it is expensive so the best choice for growing cucumbers in terms of both production and nutrient content is mainly the Perlite -4 mm substrate.
Considering the fact that in Romania, the vast majority of tomatoes harvest comes from the farmers who have relatively small areas of solariums and greenhouses, between 100 and 2000 sqm, farmers are always looking for new hybrids with the special productive performance in low temperature conditions corresponding to beginning of spring, with resistance to diseases and pests. Aim of this study was to test and recommend farmers from the south of Romania's new tomatoes hybrids with outstanding performance for the culture in solar of the tomatoes in conventional system (culture on soil) with early production. In this context, it has studied 11 hybrids the Israeli provenance tomatoes. Among hybrids analyzed, the best results in relation to the tomatoes productive potential per 1m 2 were obtained for 3319 hybrid noted V8 with a production of 16.667 kg/m 2 under the conditions of the early spring with a day maximum temperature of 20°C. In addition, although this hybrid germinated least (only 87% of seeds) and later towards others tested (after 11 days) had the highest early production 9.060kg/m 2 at first harvest from July 1. In terms of storage conditions at 9°C, the best behavior has had the hybrid 3351 whose firmness was kept undisturbed for 2 weeks. Such meticulous tests concerning the overall development of hybrids of germination, growth, flowering and production showed the importance of these experiments to identify the most suitable hybrids for envisaged climatic conditions and culture. In this specific, case the hybrid 3319.
The present paper presents the results of research carried out on 14 fungal isolates of various origins aiming to select new efficient sources for invertase production for further biotechnological application. Aspergillus flavus presented the highest protein content and Aspergillus niger, the most intense invertase activity. The relationship between enzyme concentration and enzymatic activity at 0.25 mM mL-1sucrose as substrate assayed for successive decimal dilutions of Aspergillus niger enzyme ranging from 0.1 to 1mlLrevealed a linear correspondence between 0.1 and 0.5mL. The kinetic parameters Michaelis-Menten constant (Km) and maximal velocity (Vmax) for invertase activity of Aspergillus niger, Penicillium aurantiogriseum, Aspergillus wentii and Rhizopus stolonifer were calculated. The determination coefficients R2 calculated from Lineweaver-Burk plots presented values very close or equal to 1.
