This paper analyzes the protection of names of agricultural products and food-with special reference to the Traditional specialities guaranteed. In the Republic of Serbia, there is no legal basis for registering products with a guaranteed traditional specialty. In the process of harmonization of legal regulations with EU regulations, the Republic of Serbia will also have to adopt this category of products. Although Traditional specialities guaranteed (TSG) did not fully justify expectations in the EU, we believe that their acceptance into our legal system would be positive. Their registration would standardize the process of production of such products and thereby stabilize their quality. These products will have to be subject to continuous quality control and certification of the production process, which unfortunately is not the case at the moment. Also, in this way, the production of agricultural and food products that do not meet the requirements for the protection of geographical indications of origin, whose reputation contributes significantly to the cultural and historical preservation of the identity of certain regions in Serbia, will be further preserved and raised to a higher level. The guaranteed traditional specialties will receive full material affirmation through a tourist offer where the price of these products is several times higher than the market value.
The Protocol on Ozone Depleting Substances (ODS) was signed in 1987 in Montreal. The main goal of the protocol is the international consensus and action regarding the drastic decrease of production and use of these substances, which results in increased UV radiation and consequently has a negative impact on human health and ecosystem. Besides the review of the "legal and technical" implementation of the protocol until now and the withdrawal of ODS from use, this paper specially stresses the analysis of available research results regarding the positive impact on health, in correlation with the implementation of the Montreal Protocol (MP). Due to the results of the thirty-year-long use until now, the MP is referred to as one of the most successful international agreements, not only in the field of environmental protection, but also in the field of human health protection in relation to it, within a certain context. Besides the reduced negative impact of ultraviolet radiation (UV) to the ecosystem and people, we are also facing a reduced occurring trend of skin cancer, cataracts, and immune system diseases worldwide. Without the MP and its implementation, millions of people would have died because of UV radiation and the previously mentioned diseases. The treatment costs and the pressure to the health system in all the countries worldwide would have enormously increased because of that.
Preservation of the characteristics of agricultural and food products is directly correlated with the system of geographical indications. Today, in more than 150 countries around the world, geographical indications are in the service of guaranteeing quality, origin, method of production, often tradition and, finally, product safety. The authors point out the changes in consumer behaviour, the change in the propensity to consume products that are differentiated on the market by different forms of marking and certification, and the willingness to pay for the same products at premium prices. Additional labels have imposed themselves as the main means of valorizing products on the market. The authors point out the potential of Serbian agriculture and give recommendations to the legislator, but also to other competent institutions, in order to improve position of the overall national economy. Ecological, agriculture, based on the principles of non-GMO impurities, with a clear commitment to the integral principles of land cultivation represents the greatest potential of our country. Additional state measures that would support better education and improvement of the position of farmers, with careful strategic planning of agriculture on the already mentioned principles, would make it an accelerator of the overall economic development. Geographical indications as well as standardization and certification must be an indispensable tool along the way.
The demand for nature and ecotourism has been constantly rising last forty years and it will continue to grow. Due to the coronavirus, domestic tourism will increase exponentially, which would enhance ecotourism development. Foreigners and local tourists have become more aware to leave a positive impact on the environment where they travel and where they live. Serbia and Slovakia have a great potential to become attractive ecotourism destinations. Both countries are countries with a similar population number, no access to the sea, but with preserved nature, great gastronomic offer, and the main potential next to the capitals of Bratislava and Belgrade lies in ecotourism. At the same time, domestic ecotourism is a perfect economic activity that promotes sustainability and development. In the less developed regions, ecotourism can bring new employment opportunities and increase demand for local products. Agrotourism and rural tourism are inevitable part of sustainable development in Slovakia and Serbia. Despite of small territories of Slovakia and Serbia, both countries can offer a wide range of sceneries and natural beauties to be explored. This article aims to analyze the potential of ecotourism in the Slovak Republic and Serbia. To achieve the objective results, we’ve surveyed the foreign and local respondents. Our study also analyzes whether marketing strategies and promotion of domestic ecotourism is effective to attract tourists. The obtained results will be evaluated and compared. In the last part, the paper focuses on eco labels that currently exist in Serbia and Slovakia.
