In this article we review the development of techniques to acquire reliable reservoir gas samples using a wireline formation tester in the Malaysia-Thailand Joint Development Area. This region is characterized by gas accumulations comprised of multiple stacked separate pools where reservoir conditions are often considered hostile for wireline logging operations. In the article we use data from the 16-well exploration and appraisal program, during which 1968 pre-tests and 124 samples were successfully acquired, to compare the quality of gas samples from a wireline formation tester with those obtained from drillstem tests in the same zones.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
