This paper proposes an extended comparative evaluation model framework (ECEMF) that highlights two objectives: (1) a specific economic evaluation method for the cost-optimisation of prefabricated lightweight system envelopes to achieve a greater value of the building, and (2) a comparative evaluation model framework usable by different profiles of stakeholders, when adopting the decision on the most optimal envelope type in the early design phase. Based on the proposed framework, the analysis was conducted for the case study building representing a small single-family house located in Slovenia. The methodology applied is based on the life cycle cost (LCC) including construction, operation, maintenance, and refurbishment costs, but excluding dismantling, disposal, and reuse, for the period of 50 years’ lifetime of the building which combines the Building Information Modelling (BIM) with Value for Money (VfM) assessment. To exploit the automated evaluation process in the computing environment, several tools were used, including Archicad for BIM in combination with Legep software for LCC. On one hand, the model confirms the assumption that the optimal value parameters of a building do not only depend on the typical costs related to high-performance buildings. On the other hand, from the stakeholders’ view, the model enables the choice of the optimal solution regarding the envelope type to be made in the early design phase. In this view, the model could function as an important decision tool, with a direct economic impact on the value.
A contemporary approach to the spatial design of healthcare care facilities faces numerous challenges at the crossroads of multidisciplinary topics of architecture and urbanism, healthcare, security, and organisational sciences. Due to the unique combination of uses, users and architectural expression, they are defined as urban nodes. With their inclusion, architects facilitate a better placing of healthcare facilities, indirectly improving human health. The purpose of the article is to seek guidelines for the siting of healthcare facilities to provide suitable and equal healthcare to different social structures, and for the optimal and fair spatial distribution of healthcare services. The descriptive method was used to review literature on the siting of healthcare facilities based on the purpose of their operation, demographic changes, environmental characteristics, and the impact on public health. This method was selected as it facilitates data acquisition from various sources and a comprehensive understanding of the topic discussed. The results of the research show how important the impact of the healthcare care facilities siting on human health and the wider social significance of the topic discussed is. The findings may provide guidelines and proposals for future spatial decisions.
Modern heritage protection goes beyond the mere protection of individual buildings and objects. Modern technologies and techniques of field data capture and visual (3D) presentations are increasingly penetrating this field and are becoming more and more essential and necessary for archives, cadastres, and users and visitors of museums, exhibitions, collections, and archaeological parks. In the area between Kotlje and Ravne na Koroškem, Slovenia, in 1476–1477, 9 to 10 anti-Turkish fortifications, called Turške Šance, reportedly were erected. The remains were left to decay slowly. This paper highlights the possibility of applying interdisciplinary data capture and 3D visualization techniques that are used in the fields of civil engineering and architecture for digital reconstruction of the anti-Turkish fortification as a case study in order to present them in the most contemporary way and emphasize them on a local, regional, national, and international level. Unfortunately, similar remains elsewhere in Europe are primarily ignored (with some notable exceptions). The digital reconstruction of anti-Turkish watchtowers therefore represented an extended reconstruction to revive that part of the historical heritage of Slovenia using the proposed techniques.
