The article presents the GC/MS analyses of the organic binding media of the painted woodwork in the Reformed Church of Magyarlóna (Luna de Sus, jud. Cluj). Seven samples were analyzed using a complex methodology which enables the identification of all usual classes of organic binders from the same microsample. Animal glue was identified in five of the samples, in two of them, both belonging to coffers painted by Umling the elder, a mixture of egg and animal glue was found. The results contribute to the characterization of the painting technique of the studied objects and to the choice of the proper restoration materials.
This short communication presents the study of four archaeological findings from different locations (Andrid/ Érendréd, Berveni/ Börvely, Carei/ Nagykároly, Pir/ Szilágypér) regarding their material composition and structure. In terms of chronology, the ceramics from Érendréd belong to the Early Bronze Age, while the findings from Börvely, Nagykároly and Szilágypér belong to the Middle Bronze Age. The most important aim of the study is to find answers to the questions "What? How?" referring to the findings, which were collected from different locations and to gain information about the possible raw materials, production technology, conditions that were used by the contemporary potters. The materials were analyzed by Scanning Electron Microscopy and Energy-Dispersive X-ray Spectroscopy (SEM-EDX). The SEM-EDX studies suggest that the findings from Érendréd and Szilágypér are made from the same raw materials, which derived from the same ingredients, only slight differences are shown. Based on similar principles, the ceramics from Nagykároly and Börvely show the same raw materials.
