Modern education management theory needs additional tools to evaluate the performance of leaders managerial of pesantren or Islamic boarding school. The management of pesantren uses both modern theories and also uses management concepts based on religious beliefs such as sincerity and generosity, even in special ways so that modern educational management theory can run well and appease. The research objective is to study the management of pesantren based on the concept of management from religious views as a comparison to the modern educational management concepts. The research method is auto-ethnography and grounded theory, which are based on the experiences of the researcher in managing a pesantren in Jambi. This research found that the education management of pesantren could run based on the planning and modern management because it is supported by the management concept which is based on religious beliefs, such as prayer, dzikir, special wirid, mujahadah, and riyadhah batiniyah. The success and competence of pesantren leaders in managerial could be measured and seen in terms of infrastructure, the educational process, and the achievements.
This paper discusses why the schools were wellliked and flourished; what factors drive this phenomenon? Different from many studies that have analyzed the development of integrated Islamic schools in general in Indonesia, this article focuses on the more specific Jambi case. Using social movement theory, this article argues that in addition to liberal policies that open wide opportunities for anyone to express themselves in the public sphere, including Islamists, the need for the Jambi Malay community for religious education is also an important factor. While previously this need was fulfilled by the presence of traditional Malay madrasas, which teach Islam in the afternoon after students return from school, the education standardization policy implemented by the Indonesian government has made their existence deteriorate. Taking advantage of these conditions, integrated Islamic schools have emerged to offer a full-day Islamic education model to the Muslim middle class, who are anxious about their children"s future due to lack of supervision after their time is up for work.
In the modern era, competition in various lines of life is getting tougher, education has not escaped the demands of the modern era so that the term education modernization appears. Modernization of education wants a learning model with sophisticated technology, focusing its expertise to be able to talk a lot in the field of work. Related to this, Salafiah Islamic Boarding School which is identical with its old, old education system is considered to be no longer relevant to the development of the times demanded to be able to maintain its existence with renewal efforts which certainly does not leave its characteristics as Salafiah Islamic Boarding School. This research took place in the Salafiah Sa'a Islamic Boarding School, Seberang, Jambi City. This study aims to determine the existence of the Salafiah Islamic Boarding School in the modernization era of education, what constraints faced by the Salafiah Islamic Boarding School in the modernization era of education, and what efforts have been made by the Islamic Boarding School in the era of education. education. The method used in this research is qualitative. The types of data used are primary and secondary. The data source is the informant associated with the existence of the Salafiah Sa' adatuddaren Islamic Boarding School in the era of education modernization, which was collected through observation, interviews and documentation. The findings of this study indicate that in the current era of education modernization, the Salafiah Islamic Boarding School 'adatuddaren still exists even though the number has indeed decreased but not too significantly. The efforts made by the Salafiah Sa'a adatuddaren Islamic Boarding School to maintain its existence in the era of education modernization are good enough, only it needs to be continuously evaluated by looking at existing obstacles, and the demands and demands of the times both in the world of education and employment.
Instruction is the essential procedure done which teaching happens. This study is aimed to uncover foreign languages learning that is English at the An-Nur Tangkit Islamic Boarding School using a pragmatic approach, which examines the process of foreign language learning using a perspective of holistic education theory. This study applied a qualitative approach, and data were collected by using observational techniques, interviews, and documentation. Data were then analyzed by using two patterns of analysis. The results showed that the process of learning a foreign language in An-Nur Tangkit boarding school in general was in accordance with the principles of holistic education. This finding is interesting considering that Islamic boarding school education institutions does not only teach religious knowledge but also is oriented to the formal curriculum regarding the current development. It is considered to have been able to develop the quality of the learning process in accordance with holistic education. This study also found that the process of foreign language learning at An-Nur Tangkit Islamic Boarding School is able to carry out creative innovations. The students do not only study foreign language as formal learning in the classroom but also outside the classroom. This pattern of foreign language learning is also successfully implemented regardless the fact that this boarding school does not have a technology-based language laboratory.
