Introduction: Patients under hemodialysis treatment face various physical and mental problems. One of the basic principals in prevention of complications in these patients is education. But education, solely, does not result in improve hemodialysis control situation, therefore, more attention should be paid to follow-up. Currently, by coming new communications systems and telemedicine, using them, such as follow-up methods, is inevitable. This study aimed to determine the effect of self-care education with telephone follow-up on the self-efficacy level in hemodialysis patients. This study is a quasiexperimental study conducted from October 2013 to March 2014 recruiting 60 hemodialysis patients referring to dialysis ward, Motahhari Hospital, Jahrom, Iran. The data collection instruments included demographic questionnaire and SUPPH (Strategies Used by Patients to Promote Health). The data were collected in two steps, before and two months after training intervention. Questionnaires were completed in interview method by research assistance. At the first, participants took part in 5 consecutive one-hour training instructions and then they received an instruction booklet. Then 60 patients were randomly assigned into two groups including self-care training group (30 patients) and self-care training with telephone follow-up group (30 patients). The self-care training with telephone follow-up group was received 24 phone calls (three times a week during the first and second months after the instruction) in addition to receiving 5 instructional sessions and instruction booklet. Phone call schedule was given in writing to the patients after the fifth session of instruction. The duration of each call was 20 minutes, which could also vary according to the patients' needs. The data were analyzed by SPSS version 20, Chi-square, Paired t and Independent t tests. There were no statistically significant differences in demographic variables between the groups. Pre-test mean scores for self-efficacy did not differ between the groups. There was a significant difference between the self-care training with telephone follow-up group and selfcare training group in terms of pre-to post-intervention changes in overall self-efficacy scores, stress reduction, and decision making (p<0.001). Our study demonstrates that a combination of self-care training and telephone follow-up improves self-efficacy in hemodialysis patients. self-care training with telephone follow-up should be considered in hemodialysis centers to assist patients with the management of their health-related problems.
Congestive heart failure (CHF) is the inability of the myocardium to pump enough blood to meet the body's metabolic demands. This study was conducted to assess the effects of effect of massage therapy on physiologic responses in patients with congestive heart failure. This study was a quasi-experimental, done with the permission of Jahrom University of Medical Sciences that conducted on two CCU wards of hospitals of Jahrom. Fifty participants were recruited to participate in this study within 24 hours after admission to the cardiac ward. The massages were begun 3 days after hospitalization in order not to disturb their medical treatment plan. Blood pressure, heart rate, respiratory rate, and blood oxygen saturation data were collected 30 minutes before and after back massage. A total of 50 individuals participated in this study. After 3 days of massage, participants' systolic BP (p < 0.01), diastolic BP (p < 0.01), HR (p < 0.01), and respiratory rates (p < 0.01) were significantly decreased. Also, the participants' oxygen saturation levels showed significant improvement (p < 0.01). Based on the findings of the present study, massage therapy was effective in blood pressure, heart rate, respiration rate and O2 saturation in patients with CHF. Therefore we suggest that massage therapy be used as a complementary method to stabilize their vital signs.
Congestive Heart failure (CHF) is one of the most common chronic diseases. The objective of this study was to assess whether back massage could release anxiety in patients with CHF. The study used a quasi-experimental design with one group pretest and posttest. Fifty participants were recruited in study. The modified State Anxiety Inventory was used in this study. The baseline overall mean score of anxiety was 43.52 (10.32) in the intervention group and was decreased to 33.22 (5.19) three days after massage therapy (p=0. 01). The conclusion that back massage can be more helpful to male patients than female patients. This study was conducted without a control group.
End-stage renal disease (ESRD) is an irreversible clinical condition. These patients have many problems during treatment with dialysis such as physical, mental, and socioeconomic problem to assess the influence of educational interventions based on the continuous care model on the quality of life of hemodialysis patients. The present study is a controlled clinical trial .The study population consisted of the entire patients with advanced chronic kidney failure who were undergoing hemodialysis at hemodialysis ward of Ostad Motahri Hospital in 2014-2015. The subjects were selected based on the purposeful sampling method. Based on the findings of the study the researchers set the final size at 25 subjects in each group. In the end, 50 hemodialysis patients were randomly assigned to the control and the experimental groups. The quality of life of the subjects in both groups was evaluated using Ferrans & Powers Quality of Life Index Dialysis Version before and after the intervention. Independent sample t-test showed that there were no significant differences between the two groups in all quality of life subtypes before intervention(P=0.6). But after the intervention there were Significant differences between the two groups in the quality of life subtypes questionnaire. The quality of life aspects of the intervention group were higher than the controls (P<0001). This strategy can also be recommended for increasing QOL in patients suffering other chronic diseases.
