Since the year 1959, a total of 75 cases were hospitalized at our clinic for the purpose of undergoing stereotaxic surgery. Nine cases were selected from them, and with the patients' consent an electrode was implanted in their brain. These nine subjects included 8 cases of parkinsonism and one case of behavior disorder. The implanting was done stereotaxically. The electrode employed was a multiple-electrode of 2 mm in diameter .and was equipped with a destructive electrode at its tip. The electrode was kept implanted in the thalamus, hypothalamus, amygdala, and pallidum over a period of about 2 to 4 weeks. By means of these electrodes implanted various kinds of electro-physiological investigations were made, especially changes in the local blood blow responses were followed upon impedance rheograms, that is, changes due to psychological stimuli at the time of arousal, the depth of sleep at the time of a natural sleep, changes of blood flow at the .time of parasleep , and responses to various stimulations in every stage of hypnosis
