Cheryl Carrico is a Postdoctoral Research faculty member for Virginia Tech. Her current research focus relates to STEM career pathways (K-12 through early career) and conceptual understanding of core engineering principles. Prior to her current role, Dr. Carrico spent over 25 years in the aerospace industry conducting and leading R&D, design engineering, and project management for composite aircraft
is a Ph.D. candidate in the Department of Engineering Education at Virginia Tech. She holds a B.S. in Chemical Engineering, an M.E. in Mechanical Engineering, an M.BA, and is a licensed professional engineer. Ms. Carrico has over 20 years of experience in engineering practice and has work as an engineering manager for General Dynamics. In addition to research concerning career choices for Appalachian students, Cheryl supports several K-12 STEM outreach initiatives in southwest Virginia.
She has her doctorate in Engineering Education and her strengths include qualitative and mixed methods research study design and implementation. Her expertise includes motivation and related frameworks, using these frameworks broadly to study student engagement in learning, student recruitment into and retention within engineering programs and careers, faculty teaching practices and intersections of motivation and learning strategies
