Background: Weight cutting practices (WCP) are often used prior to competitions in weight class sports such as powerlifting and combat sports. Despite potential performance or physiological decrements, as seen with combat sports per rapid WCP, current literature suggests that strength athletes tend to use less aggressive rapid WCP. However, observing rapid WCP amongst highly competitive powerlifters may show divergent trends relative to the paucity of literature. Thus, the purpose of this study was to characterize precompetition WCP of North American powerlifters.
