Speaking is a complicating skill for students to master, since they must master all of its components such as grammar, vocabulary, fluency, comprehension, and pronunciation. As a result, most EFL students struggle to succeed. The purpose of this study is to identify whether or not the speaking club helps students improve their speaking skills. The subjects of this study were the students who joined the Sixta Speaks Up as an English-speaking club in the Vocational High School by a group of forty students. The qualitative descriptive research design was adopted in this study. The author employed questionnaires delivered to students through a Google form to gather information. According to the findings of this study, the majority of students who participate in speaking clubs make significant improvements in their English speaking skills, including enhancements in pronunciation, vocabulary, and fluency in speaking English in general. The speaking activities also increase their confidence to exchange their ideas.
In the era of the Covid-19, distance learning with interesting learning materials is needed to avoid boredom and burnout. Online distance learning requires the use of the internet and the readiness of teachers to process learning materials. In reality, internet use is limited to teachers and students in urban areas that have better information and technology. Therefore, the development of teacher creativity in making creative learning materials, especially in making creative media, needs to be used as a follow-up to overcome Online learning problems. Internet information technology, which was previously used as a source of information, must now be used as a media aid in Online learning, especially at the level of basic education. After a 42-hour workshop with discussions; (1) Creative and interesting learning with a literary approach; (2) Making interesting and creative learning media, and; (3) Learning technology and its handling. The teachers of Experimental State Elementary School 2 have obtained recipes for making creative learning media that are able to attract stronger attention to children when participating in online learning. Teachers have also been able to prepare PowerPoint for interesting and not boring subjects
This study aims to analyze and evaluate the EFL Textbooks for the eleventh grade of Vocational High School. The entitle of the textbook is Forward, an English Course for Vocational Students. EFL Textbooks have become an essential thing used in foreign language teaching. The textbook is a guide for teachers in carrying out the learning and teaching process in the classroom. The textbook consists of a syllabus, methodology, and supporting materials for teaching in the school. Currently, choosing a textbook is a challenging job for EFL teachers because textbooks must be under the material to be taught in class. To evaluate the content of this textbook, the theory of Harmer has been adopted to research assessing and analyzing the textbook. Researchers want to know the strengths and weaknesses of the textbook. After implementing Harmer's theory, researchers found results that showed that textbooks were satisfactory because they were affordable, contained attractive layouts, attractive designs, and clear instructions. It conforms to the current ELT methodology, covers the four language skills, and comprises a variety of culturally appropriate topics. In addition, it has add-ons, contains additional material, and provides authentic listening material. However, teachers have succeeded in using textbooks as teaching materials and are expected to help teachers meet the learning needs of students in EFL classes.
