R EPAIR OF HERNIAS, whether inguinal or incisional, amounts to of the most commonly performed procedures by general surgeons. Although many of the patients with either type of hernia may undergo an operation through the traditional open approach, there had been a significant shift toward the laparoscopic route, particularly for incisional hernia repair. Like with any such change, there remain controversial issues in the treatment of these problems. This review summarizes the current literature on the laparoscopic approach to inguinal and incisional hernia repairs.
