In this work, we study how the deterioration caused by electrical steel sheet cutting can be implemented in finiteelement simulation of electrical machines in an effective manner. We use exponential decay as the degradation profile and propose a new method for the numerical integration using Gauss-Jacobi quadratures. The method is tested for 1-D case, and highly accurate results are obtained.
Bangladesh is located in the alluvial floodplain of the Ganges–Brahmaputra–Meghna (GMB) river system and its numerous tributaries. In this country, the frequency, as well as severity, of riverbank erosion is high. To examine the impacts of riverbank erosion on rural food security, a baseline survey was conducted in Zajira, Bangladesh. The findings show that most people in the study area are affected by riverbank erosion. Moreover, agricultural production is gradually decreasing as a result of loss of farmland due to the catastrophe and its impacts. In some cases, people lose their entire homestead and are left with few income opportunities and low purchasing power. Consequently, they face the constant threat of a food crisis. The affected people follow some coping mechanisms to face these stressful situations, such as relying on less expensive or less preferred food items. While the local-government authorities have implemented some programmes to assist them, such as food aid and social-safety-net schemes, these are insufficient, due to the government's limited institutional resources and capacities. These findings suggest that for formulating effective rural-development plans, assessing the impact of riverbank erosion on the food security of people living in the affected areas is a prerequisite.
Influence of organic manures (10 ton ha-1), nitrogen (50 and 100 kg ha-1), phosphorus (10 and 20 kg ha-1) and potassium (30 and 60 kg ha-1) on the growth and yield of Aloe vera (L.) Burm.f. (Aloe barbadensis Mill.) were evaluated. Experiment was conducted in a randomized design replicated thrice with eleven treatments with NPK and without NPK fertilizers. Highest length of leaf (18 cm), highest leaf area (23.40 cm2plant-1), highest leaf area index 0.06 were observed in ACI10ton ha-1plus N50P10K3O kg ha-1 treatment, highest fresh weight (78.23gplant-1) and highest dry weight (9.58 gplant-1) of plant biomass were observed in GTS 10ton ha-1 treatment. Highest concentration of N (2.69%) and protein content (16.84 %) in the leaf were recorded in GTS10 ton ha-1 treatment. Results revealed that the best growth performance and yield, and protein content in the leaf of Aloe vera was observed in GTS10 ton ha-1 treatment. Dhaka Univ. J. Biol. In this paper, a forward uncertainty propagation method is presented for a 2D finite-element model in an induction machine. This method is applied to quantify the uncertainty of input parameters, e.g., dimensions and material properties, and demonstrate their variability effect on harmonics related to the broken rotor bar faults. To show the most influential input parameters in the case of broken rotor bars harmonics, a global sensitivity analysis is performed from the polynomial chaos expansion approximation of the finite-element model. The results of this study indicate that broken rotor bars harmonics are highly sensitive to stator inner diameter, rotor outer diameter, rotor bar conductivity, and core materials. Moreover, the combined variability of these sensitive input parameters can attenuate the amplitude of the broken rotor bars harmonics 30-90% compared to the simulation results at nominal values of input parameters and closely match with measurement results.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
