Nowadays, carbon footprint (CF) became an important topic closely related to the ecological production of goods and services. Energy use and subsequent emissions of greenhouse gases (GHGs) in all human facilities affect the world's climate in the form of global warming in recent decades. The dominant greenhouse gas arising from human activities is carbon dioxide (CO2). Carbon footprint is CO2 and other GHGs that are released per unit product for a specific period. The main purpose of this study is the determination of most important critic processes about that contribute to the cf problem during medium-density fiberboard (MDF) production with Pareto analysis method. MDF is a kind of composite panel product which is typically containing of cellulosic fibers with the combination of synthetic resins and additives becoming under heat and pressure. For this purpose, a wood -based panel company is selected to examine cf for its each process. As a conclusion this study makes an important contribution to the panel based industry to see the emission problems with the help of Pareto analysis and help to perform an environmental oriented production for the future. Moreover, two scenarios are built up to decrease of total carbon footprint in the selected plant. So, the analysis results are supported with two scenarios. Also, this study shall provide a general view and perception for the importance of the carbon footprint in the wood panel based industrial sector.
The most significant element of the sustainable system depends on their own limits. For instance, Water is the most crucial one of all, since it's a significant input for essentially every industrial production and manufacturing step. This situation symbolizes that there is a limit to the amount of location, water, energy sources and all sources, input elements of the system supported by the world. The sustainability of materials, natural sources are vital needs for the households. What households consume today will not be enough for the next generation. If a product is not used up and throws away rapidly, the consumer needs a new one, and so there are requirements to produce with raw materials and resources again. If the good does not have the capability of being recycled, manufacturers will give damages, harmful to the environmental location. The term "water, energy footprint" and "carbon footprint" is put forward to measure the total volume of carbon dioxide emission and also natural water and energy resources used for manufacturing processes, or used by an individual or a community. All the activities and requirements of the population are caused greenhouse gasses emission. These concepts and results induce the climate change of the world. Regarding to the main subject which is defined in the above, the aim of this research is to investigate some developments which decrease the amount of waste in the industrial production stages and at the end of lifecycle time of products. The purpose of this study is to present a general review of the sustainability literature to decrease the amount of waste and to evaluate the environmental oriented production and consumption by SWOT Analysis; This research involves main concepts of environmental dimension of sustainability that aims to declare the significant of the carbon and water footprint for the ecological life.
In today's rapidly growing and changing business environment, keeping their competitive edge in the market is becoming harder and harder for organizations. Thus, today's organizations have to constantly re-engineer their business practices in order to meet the increasing competition and at the same time to meet customer expectations. This requires smoothly operating a process that yields high-quality products/services in a short response time with a low cost in an organization. This can be achieved by integrating a well-operating supply chain system into the businesses conducted. With this scope, being a member of the supply chain, warehousing and distribution systems play one of the key roles in achieving competitive advantage. However, in Turkey, warehousing has not been given the degree of consideration that it deserves. Yet, recently, few companies have realized the vital of warehousing and studies regarding the subject have begun accordingly. One of the companies in Turkey that have acknowledged the need for innovation in X Textile Firm. It has undertaken to re-engineer of its core operations. Within this frame, this research handles one of the branches of the study, Analysis, Assessment and Improvement of the Warehouse System. With the reviews that the results of the studies have presented, proposals are formed and existed what should have been done in order to achieve the objectives that have been stated at the beginning of the study. Then, after interviewing with top management of the firm on needs, constraints, and specifications, detailed proposals covering the core issue are prepared. When warehousing operations are considered as a whole, the issue inherently requires an elaborate analysis of the supply chain. However, because of time constraints and the scope designated at the outset, detailed design proposals are kept and sustained within the initial frame. At the end of the study, the proposed structure and concept is presented to the management and this research provides as an initial step and it supports on how the firm should follow throughout the progress of the research.
The purpose of this chapter is to investigate and determine the most appropriate strategy according to the results of applied methodologies and literature about waste management for the textile sector. In this research, improvement of this concept for textile sector in Turkey has been implemented by using SWOT analysis integrated with AHP framework. Based on this, the most appropriate strategy has been chosen for this industry. According to this destination, SWOT analysis has been applied and alternative strategies have been determined which are based on green production and waste management of textile products for this sector. Then this SWOT matrix has been converted into a hierarchical structure. Thus, AHP model of this application has been formed with this perception via this methodology. Consequently, determination a management strategy within environmentally oriented production for this industry will be provided to contribute the environmental sustainability. Also, this study will be given a point of general view and approach for the importance of green production and consumption.
